Everyone's asleep

(viewed 1375 times)
Everyone's asleep,
the living room is quiet.
Christmas lights frame the window,
and the curtain is beautifully lighted.

Snow falls outside,
good it is warm inside.

Wake-up, Wake-up,
Good Morning to you all.
There is a present under the tree,
pick it up, and go play out in the snow!

Happy Holidays!

December 9th: A Winter White Berry

(viewed 4098 times)
There are practically no street decorations this year, even less than last year, so I decided to turn to nature again for hints that Christmas is coming. So... this is the Portuguese Crowberry (Corema album), "camarinha", an edible pea-sized berry much appreciated by the local mushroom hunters. And since over here the mushroom season overlaps with the holiday season, and this shrub looks very christmassy when it's full of these white beries... Well, personally I consider them a symbol of the season. They're not exceptionally tasty, but they're fresh, crunchy and succulent. They bring back memories from my childhood, from when my grandparents took me mushroom hunting with them and taught me to love these berries, and they really get me in the mood for the season.

Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season, filled with love, joy, warmth, and whatever it is that makes this season special and unique to each one of you.
