December 6th: Fox News

(viewed 861 times)
Forget Fox News' bogus annual 'War on Christmas' news coverage. The only foxes worth noting are the bright eyed and bushy tailed ones, especially when they creep up close to you in the middle of the afternoon and you just happen to have your camera with you. If unsettling fox-based stories with a religious angle really are your bag, ignore reactionary news networks and try this on for size instead:

The Fox and the Geese by The Brothers Grimm

The fox once came to a meadow in which was a flock of fine fat geese, on which he smiled and said, "I come in the nick of time, you are sitting together quite beautifully, so that I can eat you up one after the other." The geese cackled with terror, sprang up, and began to wail and beg piteously for their lives. But the fox would listen to nothing, and said, "There is no mercy to be had! You must die." At length one of them took heart and said, "If we poor geese are to yield up our vigorous young lives, show us the only possible favour and allow us one more prayer, that we may not die in our sins, and then we will place ourselves in a row, so that you can pick yourself out the fattest." "Yes," said the fox, "that is reasonable, and a pious request. Pray away, I will wait till you are done." Then the first began a good long prayer, for ever saying, "Ga! Ga!" and as she would make no end, the second did not wait until her turn came, but began also, "Ga! Ga!" The third and fourth followed her, and soon they were all cackling together.

When they have done praying, the story shall be continued further, but at present they are still praying without stopping.

3rd December: Merry Christmas

(viewed 898 times)
Wishing all a merry and safe Christmas period .

I'm not good at writing stuff, so Ive stolen a verse or two from a favourite Australian christmas jingle. As the temperature approaches 38 degrees, and its only the third day of summer, I thought it might be appropriate.

Dashing through the bush, in a rusty Holden Ute,
Kicking up the dust, esky in the boot,
Kelpie by my side, singing Christmas songs,
It's Summer time and I am in my singlet, shorts and thongs

Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way,
Christmas in Australia on a scorching summers day, Hey!
Jingle bells, jingle bells, Christmas time is beaut!
Oh what fun it is to ride in a rusty Holden Ute.

December 2nd - Happy Holidays

(viewed 1681 times)
Not a christmas shot this time around,
but a nice painting by danish painter, Gabriela Strøm.

This is going to be the front cover of a children's music cd I have been working on for more than a year now. In ten days it will finally be released.

To hopefully get you all in a good mood and ready for christmas please follow the link below.

Here is a rough translation of the lyrics, so you have an idea what they are singing about.

A very merry christmas to you all!

Hi, my name is Savannah
I'm a beautiful giraffe
So beautiful that when you see me
It will take you by surprise
My eyes are so gorgeous
And my smile is like a kiss
I almost reach the sky and
The milky way with stardust

Oh, Savannah
All the way from Havana

I'm a really lovely girl
And a giraffe too
Just come on over
We'll have a cup of coffee
I just love flowers
And if you bring me some
We'll go and plant them
In the sunlight somewhere

I'm a dancer
A hot cuban cigar
Would you like to hear me sing
And play my guitar?
I know that you dream of me
Imagine us dance the salsa
With our hearts dancing along

Oh, Savannah
All the way from Havana

1st December - Like crying in the night

(viewed 1167 times)
Advent Calendar

He will come like last leaf’s fall.
One night when the November wind
has flayed the trees to the bone, and earth
wakes choking on the mould,
the soft shroud’s folding. He will come like frost.
One morning when the shrinking earth
opens to mist, to find itself
arrested in the net
of alien, sword-set beauty. He will come like dark.
One evening when the bursting red
December sun draws up the sheet
and penny-masks its eye to yield
the star-snowed fields of sky.

He will come, will come,
will come like crying in the night,
like blood, like breaking,
as the earth writhes to toss him free.
He will come like a child.

Rowan Williams

Previously I have used the first verse of Betjeman's *Advent 1955* which I love but this time I've posted *Advent Calendar* to honour the outgoing Archbishop of Canterbury. Happy Advent mobloggers : - )
