Doors of perception

Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving
forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we are
curious...and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
-- Walt Disney

Happy holidays.

Who made all the pies?

(viewed 1484 times)
This year I have developed mince pie mania. I have made nearly 3 kilos of the misleadingly named dried fruit confection and several batches of pastry, all striving for the effortless buttery flakiness of my mother's efforts down the years.

As a child I took the traditional mince pies, the Christmas pudding we made in October, the turkey dinner, the ham with pease pudding on Boxing Day for granted.

Now I realise that mums - and sometimes dads - work very hard to meet our appetites at Christmas, Hannukah, Eid and every other festive feast.

So this one's for all you bakers, tradition makers, slightly stressed supermarket shoppers as you get ready for the big day.

This year, I'll be making some mince pies for my mum.

Twinkle, twinkle...

(viewed 3571 times)
This year has been full of change for me. Some unavoidable, some chosen. There have been be ups and downs, a lot of stress, but plenty of joy. There's still a way to go, but i can now see the light at the end of the tunnel.

A very merry christmas to all of you, and a happy, hopeful and hilarious new year!

December 21 - Santa Claus (he visits the child in all of us)

(viewed 1774 times)
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly,
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

Santa Claus as portrayed in the poem 'A Visit From Saint Nicholas' composed in 1822 by Clement C. Moore.

Seasons Greetings to you and yours from me and mine. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all.

December Babies

(viewed 1311 times)
I thought that by December 20th, I'd be announcing the arrival of my twin granddaughters, but they haven't put in an appearance quite yet. Still, a creche seems in order. Encased in plexiglass, this creche is outside the Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal.
Happy Christmas, one and all!

A Season's Wish

(viewed 1985 times)
*A season's wish will come true
All seasons begin with you...*

I sang the song with these lines in at the end of the night last Friday. I'm no Jon Anderson but I had a large happy crowd singing the last verse with me. Every line of this song means something to me, especially this year when I've suffered loss and made tremendous gains. And this year of all years I finally found my way home.

A season's wish to you fellow mobloggers; may you know love and joy this Christmas and throughout the coming year x

Day 18: Something different

(viewed 1475 times)
Yeah. This is how the prairies look like after the nice mix of rainy and sunny days we've been getting lately, and it's such a lovely sight I just had to share it. Wherever you are and whatever the weather, I hope it brightens your day and brings you warm feelings and joy, just like it did for me.

A very merry Christmas to mobloggers everywhere. Enjoy the season!

(Oh, the photo was partly staged, but not planned. I found this lost tiny Santa by pure luck just as I was looking around for some inspiration and merely cleaned it up a bit and changed its place to include the yellow wild flowers. I do wonder how it got there.)

Give Santa a hug

(viewed 1280 times)
I really wanted a quirky shot. Something related to Christmas in a strange and intriguing way. But we've just touched down in Delhi and I took this 5 minutes after arriving. It seemed a good idea to choose today for my advent shot but now jet lagged and slightly overwhelmed I think this shot will have to do. So now there is no trace of Christmas, no Santa hats (actually did see one in the airport), no Slade, no mince pies, no crackers. And I sort of miss it. So if you see Santa give him a hug from me.
