Day 8 - Mistletoe!

(viewed 1247 times)
Mistletoe
by
Walter de la Mare

"Sitting under the mistletoe
(Pale-green, fairy mistletoe),
One last candle burning low,
All the sleepy dancers gone,
Just one candle burning on,
Shadows lurking everywhere:
Some one came, and kissed me there.

Tired I was; my head would go
Nodding under the mistletoe
(Pale-green, fairy mistletoe),
No footsteps came, no voice, but only,
Just as I sat there, sleepy, lonely,
Stooped in the still and shadowy air
Lips unseen - and kissed me there."

This mistletoe was in a garden centre we visited last weekend. I wanted to buy some but it's too early, it would be dead by Christmas and as G pointed out the berries are poisonous and we wouldn't want Blackie eating them, although he's extraordinarily fussy and not likely to suddenly decide to go Vegan! (That's Blackie, not G!)

Today, 8th December is the anniversary of John Lennon's death. So here's a link to Happy Christmas - War is over for you too.

Christmas wishes and Gay Boy mistletoe kisses to you all and our obligatory link to the Samaritans just in case it's not "a good one without any tears".

If you haven't had chance yet, have a stir and wish for yourselves with these Christmas puddings and may they come for true for you. x

I have been such a nice boy in 2011.

And you guys, what do you see ?

I offer a cocktail to Hildegard before Xmas, if anyone finds out how this picture was taken. :)

Xmas in the City

(viewed 1143 times)
They say only god can make a tree but recently I've been marveling at what the human species has been capable of creating. This struck me as a kind of monolithic Christmas tree that one might see in The Matrix.

In the parlance of this side of the pond, happy holidays to mobloggers, one and all!

A big polar bear hug to all

Here's to a toasty warm holiday season with lots of colour, silliness, warm fires, hot chocolate, candlelight, games and ridiculousness.

The world seems travelling into space..Day 1

(viewed 1748 times)
The Advent wind begins to stir
With sea-like sounds in our Scotch fir,
It's dark at breakfast, dark at tea,
And in between we only see
Clouds hurrying across the sky
And rain-wet roads the wind blows dry
And branches bending to the gale
Against great skies all silver pale
The world seems travelling into space,
And travelling at a faster pace
Than in the leisured summer weather
When we and it sit out together,
For now we feel the world spin round
On some momentous journey bound -
Journey to what? to whom? to where?
The Advent bells call out 'Prepare,
Your world is journeying to the birth
Of God made Man for us on earth.'

From Advent 1955 by John Betjemen

Happy Advent! Where did that year go? My picture is of a winter sunrise in the field at the back of us...With a little bit of added sparkle! My apologies for Betjemen once again, but really I couldn't find anything I liked better and I'm a person who likes my Christmas traditions : )

Thanks again to Viv for her superior organizational skills.
