1st December - On some momentous journey bound...

(viewed 1449 times)
The Advent wind begins to stir
With sea-like sounds in our Scotch fir,
It's dark at breakfast, dark at tea,
And in between we only see
Clouds hurrying across the sky
And rain-wet roads the wind blows dry
And branches bending to the gale
Against great skies all silver pale
The world seems travelling into space,
And travelling at a faster pace
Than in the leisured summer weather
When we and it sit out together,
For now we feel the world spin round
On some momentous journey bound -
Journey to what? to whom? to where?
The Advent bells call out 'Prepare,
Your world is journeying to the birth
Of God made Man for us on earth.'

From Advent 1955 by John Betjemen

Advent - What will be behind this year's doors?

(viewed 1269 times)
Well it's up to you!

We need 24 different 'mobloggers' to give us their perspective on the festive season.

This is the 4th moblog Advent calendar and up to now only a very small number of people have posted twice, so unless you are one of those people, if you wish to contribute please indicate below and I will send you a link to a google document, where you can sign up against a date.

So grab your date quickly - once they are gone they are gone (as they say!)

Thanks to Taniwha for the image.

23 December: Red is the colour of Christmas

(viewed 2203 times)
I took this while walking the hidden backways of Totteridge in North London. Under 10 miles from Charing Cross yet it looks like this (same day): http://moblog.net/view/917392/white-belt

That's what's magic about (my native) London - layers and layers of colourful stuff to peel away to reveal some wonderful hidden secret or other - just like a good Christmas present.

Wishing you all happy explorations and unwrappings over the holidays and into the new decade...

December 22nd - Merry Christmas from Poland

(viewed 1807 times)
It's Christmas in the air!
Snowflakes in December
Children site with Santa's toys
Their gloves wiping crystalline ice,
Off shiny plastic
Our breath thick like fog
Mingles in oneness
As we stand back to
Look upon the completion
Of our Christmas trees
Giggling from heady wine
And feelings shared
It's Christmas in the air!

Beyond the here and now...

Candlelit Heart
A Christmas Poem by Mary E. Linton

Somewhere across the winter world tonight
You will be hearing chimes that fill the air;
Christmas extends its all-enfolding light
Across the distance...something we can share.

You will be singing, just the same as I,
These familiar songs we know so well,
And you will see these same stars in your sky
And wish upon that brightest one that fell.

I shall remember you and trim my tree,
One shining star upon the topmost bough;
I will hang wreaths of faith that all may see --
Tonight I glimpse beyond the here and now.

And all the time that we must be apart
I keep a candle in my heart.

Words chosen by me
