my quickest route home from tube stations cuts through a boutique hotel, which is particularly useful when a torrential downpour, erm, pours/torrents... comfy seats and no through traffic.. shame about the new-age musak and derivative Starck decorations

first thought, wow, the 'credit crunch' has made it to homeless-themed window displays - then realised the sign said 'penny for the guy', not 'gov'

For info. on the Jeremy Bentham auto-icon check this fascinating article linked from UCL.

The initial dissection and skull preservation (after the fashion of New Zealand natives) was conducted by Bentham's friend, Dr Thomas Southwood Smith, in a combined anatomical demonstration and lecture during a heavy thunderstorm, his 'face as white as that of the dead philosopher before him', etc.

While Bentham didn't found UCL, it was 'undoubtedly Bentham who inspired the group of men, Thomas Campbell, Henry Brougham and others, who were responsible'... Brougham later proposed transferring Bentham's stuffed body to UCL and hence to his current hallway placement in UCL's South Cloisters keeping an eye on the student riff-raff - after sojourns under books awaiting sorting and removal to the country during WWII.

In addition to inviting his friends to party with his corpse whenever they fancied, Bentham further ensured they'd never forget him by having 24 signet ring miniatures of himself prepared for his friends and *painted with a brush of his own hair*, so fantastic... such a super*.
