Stuff you shoot when there's no Kingfisher about.

It wasn't all action and excitement.

Well worth the early start!

So, Boet and I went out on a Kingfisher hunt.
I've never seen one in real life before.
This pair were just across the water from where we were "hiding".
They were fishing off that branch, maybe 20feet in front of us!
I think they may have a nest in there somewhere.
All in all well worth getting up so early for and now we know where to
find them.
These were shot with a 70 / 300 zoom on the D80. Even this close I think
you'd still do better with a 500mm (hired) lens or a 2x converter,
though the light levels there are pretty low.

Look into the eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes, into the eyes!

So you come back from the DIY shop with (amongst other things) a length
of square aluminimumm tubing.
What do you do?
You get your son to look down one end and stick your phone at the other end.
Of course.

"Ijsvogel" hunt

(viewed 346 times)
Boet, we really don't have to get up at 5am tomorrow to do this
you know.
From the comfort of your own favorite armchair is an option too.
;-D

(Nah, not the same thing at all, I'll see you here at 05.15, batts fully
charged, long lens polished, cammo-jacket at the ready.
Do I need wellies?)
