Harajuku

Specifically the area around Jingu-bashi bridge, where every Sunday afternoon young people dress up to frighten the oldsters and delight the tourists (and, probably, the pervs too). Picture 2 by The BBG.

Ghibli Museum, Mitaka

(viewed 1524 times)
Spiffy museum dedicated to the works of Studio Ghibli, the Japanese animation studio responsible for Spirited Away and other classics (picture by The BBG). The second picture shows the special bus that takes you to the museum from the station - Totoro fans will be disappointed that it's not a gigantic hollowed-out cat, but you can't have everything.

As previous entry, but lighter. Pictures 1 and 3 by The Belated Birthday Girl.

Flamme d'Or

(viewed 771 times)
The large sculpture on top of the Asahi Beer Hall in Asakusa. Designer Philippe Starck thinks it looks like a giant golden flame: the locals reputedly think it looks like a giant golden poo. As you can see from the second picture, it's also available in cheese form at the beer hall restaurant.
