My peace offering..

Take this onion with my apologies. It was growing in Breaks&Beats;' garden!

Last Thursday..

...I became Mrs Spaceman in a tiny secret ceremony with DD and three friends. We have delayed announcing it until all of our large families had been told. I am not a young person, I have been married before and BS wanted something quiet that was all about a marriage, not about a wedding. These are the words my Divine Daughter read. Again, not about a wedding....

“After awhile you learn the subtle difference
between holding a hand and chaining a soul.
And you learn that love doesn't mean security,
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts
And presents aren't promises.
And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open.
With the grace of maturity, not the grief of a child.
And you learn to build all your roads on
Today because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.
After awhile you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure...
That you really are strong
And that you really do have worth.
And you learn and learn and learn ....
With every goodbye you learn.”

BTW, my initials are now F A B!

Thunderbirds are go!

I suppose the musical link should really be *Secret Wedding* from the soundtrack to *Braveheart* but staying with a Scottish theme I quite like this:

(But we have got brave hearts!!)

I've been fearing her wrath when she found out. She found out today....What a lovely forgiving niece and God daughter she is!

Love you Sweetie xxxx

Edit: It ain't upside down. This is how I took it.

Secondary School

(viewed 41585 times)
Today is DD's first day at secondary/senior school. The school bus picks up all the local students and takes them to the school in the town about 3 miles from here.

She asked me to go to the pick up point with her, which is nearly outside the Rift House. When we realised there were no other mums there, not even with the other year 7s, I offered to leave, but she said no, she would prefer it if I stayed and no, I'm not an embarrassment, even if I do look like an ancient version of Amy Winehouse without my false tooth in. When the school bus arrived it had started to rain and I was all but trampled to death in the stampede!

I felt tearful when I got back indoors. You see I never had much hope of conceiving so having a big 11 year old is the stuff of dreams.

But then through the window I noticed Bro J's car approaching. Just popping in with a good luck card for DD on his way to work. Aaah! What could be more comforting than the faces you have known all your life? : )

It seems summer is really over. BS went back to school yesterday, DD is now a year 7 and I'm back at work tomorrow after a 10 day break. And the weather feels very Autumnal.

And I don't look like any version of Amy actually. It just so happens we are both missing the same tooth...

The last to go

Ziggy our lovely left handed Rat died late last night. The funeral party are, as I type, out in the garden laying him next to his brothers Weirdy and Gilly.

Ziggy was really rather unusual, he was black with little white cuffs and on his underside he had a large white fur swastika shape.

We rescued the three rats over 2 years ago and they moved here with us from Putney last year. They were living in a tiny little glass tank. They had never even tasted fresh food only dried rat nuggets. Ziggy in particular loved salad leaves and baby spinach which is maybe why he lived so long! The least age he could be, because you can never be sure with rescue Rats was 30 months. That's not a bad age for a Rat, believe me.

For anyone curious about the names we gave the Stardust Brothers, I've added the first verse of Bowie's famous song below.

May it be the song in your head today! Especially the much loved intro...

*Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Weird and Gilly
And the spiders from Mars. He played it left hand
But made it too far
Became the special man, then we were Ziggy's band...*

Unforgettable Summer

This summer, particularly this August will be unforgettable in so many ways. So much happened, some happy some sad, some good, some bad. And something really huge too! These are some of the sights from around my home on the North Downs on the last day of August.

Conkers coming

Elder Berries

Wild flowers

sunflowers in among the corn in the field opposite

Virginia creeper turning red

Sunflower on my roof terrace

This time I think I like the elder berries best.
