I wanted to be outside - having had so little sun at home so we settled on the Botanical Gardens for our second full day in Montreal and very pleasant it was too.

After the chapel we walked back thro'Old Montreal had a very nice lunch then gotin the car and went up the 'mountain' or up 'nob hill' as I thought of it where the rich anglophiles live - as well as great views over the city we had a very interesting drive around the area and theen finished the afternoon by the rapids on the river before going back for supper.

Well worth a visit.
Think these were illegal pics but didn't realise until after I had taken them.
The first is the original wooden statue of the 'Virgin Mary" - Star of the Sea - that topped the chapel from 1848 -1893
Ihe second is one of a number of saints

Often known as the Sailors'Church the chapel's history goes back to 1657 when a wooden chapel was built on the site. The little wooden statuette was above the offertry candles - proper candles I'm pleased to say one of which I lit a thing I tend to do in special churches in memory of our parents
