I'm here because it's a place where I want to be.

What do I do with my life - still pondering that, keep exploring the possibilities I suppose...

I do have another more personal moblog Vivupclose

Take a look at my daughter Beth's website...

food for thought...

Everyone, in some small sacred sanctuary of the self, is nuts. -Leo Rosten, author (1908-1997)

We think caged birds sing, when indeed they cry. -John Webster, playwright (c. 1580-1634)

There are two kinds of light -- the glow that illuminates, and the glare that obscures. -James Thurber, writer and cartoonist (1894-1961)

The artist brings something into the world that didn't exist before, and he does it without destroying something else. -John Updike, writer (1932-2009)

Some people become so expert at reading between the lines they don't read the lines. -Margaret Millar, novelist (1915-1994)

There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. -Elie Wiesel, writer, Nobel laureate (b. 1928)

Last week ended with Georgie Fame :)

(viewed 869 times)
Done lots of good things recently - trips to Settle to gigs seem to becoming a regular feature of life. Another trip to the Ilkley film festival to see Michael Rosen on Thurs, again with H&B; - which was great. Then last Fri it was the Victoria Hall, match at the Etihad Sat and on Sunday Beth gave me dinner and came with me to see Georgie Fame and his sons at The Brudenell in Leeds. Just brilliant! We couldn't have been any closer to him.

A day trip to London

(viewed 770 times)
Earlier in the month I went down to London with my friend Nicky.
She was working in the morning so we went down about 2pm and I made a lunch for the journey:) We wandered around and had coffee before going to the Adfam 30th birthday celebration and exhibition. Her picture and a brief summary of her story was part of a display to promote awareness of drug and alcohol addiction problems for the families involved, presenting cases as studies rather than numbers. Her story was told more fully in a booklet.
When we got to her picture Eddie Mair was looking at it. Nicky knew he would be there, as he is the patron of Adfam. She recognised his voice and he was thrilled and she got a big hug.
He's a lovely man. Nicky was thrilled too.
It was a very moving event with everyone chatting and sharing experiences.
NB The Hors d'oeuvre were amazing:)

Strange but I feel as though I haven't lost any space around the back even though we have an extension!

more purchases...

The first is basically a rambling rose but miniaturised to 40cm - the Fairy.
We had a rambler at the bottom of our garden in Manchester so this definitely evokes childhood memories

Not what it was designed for but it does an excellent job of getting through a mat of roots!
