Book Twenty Six.
I started reading this about six or seven months ago and couldn't get into it. I said i'd give it another go at some point, which I'm glad i did because this time i really really enjoyed it. It killed me. Holden made me laugh and all. I also actually finished it a few days ago, but i am now on holiday, so am posting late. Oh well Cornwall's worth it.
Rain, thunder and lightning.
I hope it's better down south, me and BeardyMan are going to be camping at the weekend...
Book Twenty Five.
Thirteenth Brookmyre. I'd already been warned that this was was a little... different for Brookmyre. And once i'd started it my main worry was whether this 'difference' was in a religious or scientific way. In the end, the only thing that really bothered me was the constant and sudden changes in the POV. I understood why, with the plethora of characters he'd used (thank you, Adnan's quick-reference gamer guide!), but it was still jarring to suddenly skip from male to female pronouns and have to figure out whose thoughts i was following. But otherwise, still Brookmyre, still good!
Pandaemonium = ((Science x Religion) + (Teenagers x grief)) ^ Demons(?)
Don't know if this is a moth or a butterfly, but it's rather pretty and has been hanging around in our garden for a while--i actually found it inside the back door this afternoon.
In other news: our neighbours gave us, for keeps, a lawn mower and a strimmer. Soo we mowed the lawn! We don't have an extension lead long enough for the strimmer to reach the far end of the garden yet, but still, massive improvement!
Book Twenty Four.
BeardyMan suggested i read this book ages and ages ago. When i found out it included animal torture, i was a bit wary. But i gave it ago. Aaaaaaand... i loved it. The violent and graphic aspects are really not that bad. It's very funny. And i didn't want to put it down. I finished it at about 6am this morning when i couldn't sleep. Definitely reading more Banks in the future.
Book Twenty Three.
Twelfth Brookmyre. Do i really need to keep repeating how awesome Brookmyre is? If you haven't heard me gushing before, you must be new here. This one sees the return on several characters, and i was very glad, because i was mentally ranting for days about how things were left between Angel X and Zal in 'The Sacred Art...' Twists within twists in this one. LOVED IT.
A Snowball in Hell = (Simon Darcourt + celebrities) x (Angel X + Zal Innez) ^ Twists
Have i ever before been ridiculously happy because the book i'm reading references the last book i read?
Yes, yes i have.
This one made me particularly pleased, because it's the second time it's happened.
Book Twenty Two.
Other than a couple of points where it waffled on a bit, i really enjoyed this book. Dorian was a bit gullible, really, but i loved Lord Henry. I want Lord Henry and Zellaby, from Wyndham's The Midwich Cuckoos, to sit around philosophising over afternoon tea.
