Weird Games

@ the Experimental Gameplay workshop @ GDC ... 3 hours of 15 minute
presentations covering a total of about 35 wacky games and game

ilovebees was discussed at length (which won an award for innovation
last night), Eyetoy Antigrav (made by Harmonix, who made Frequency,
Karaoke Revolution and such...), upcoming Nintendo DS games and more ...
the most surprising was Ragdoll Kung Fu (check out: Totally hilarious and amazingly deep for
a totally independant game (likely to be sold through the website

New Zelda

@ GDC, Nintendo keynote, the Nintendo CEO premiered new footage of the
upcoming Zelda. Amazingly beautiful environments, characters and
animation ... he also mentioned the release of the DS tomorrow in

Nintendo Rules

He showed Animal Crossing DS, which indeed will be wi-fi capable,
Nintendogz, which is a brilliant voice and touch activated toy, and
Electroplankton, which is a truly bizarre music generating software
gizmo for the DS. All inspiring.

Nintendo also announced that the Nintendo Revolution console will be
backwards compatible with the Gamecube and entirely wireless (well, ok,
power and video cables aside). Nintendos wi-fi network, which is
starting to sound like the wireless equivalent of XBOX Live! will be
free to uses...

Also @ GDC in the Nintendo keynote, they demoed 8 player Mario Kart DS
on stage ... looks like awesome fun!

Konfabulator Damacy

Ok, I realize it is impossible to see here, but the designer of Katamari
Damacy is giving a presentation at the Game Developer's Conference using
an Apple Powerbook. More interestingly, he is running Konfabulator!

I spent the day in a series of sessions about 'games for the rest of
us'. Great favorite quote was from the Technology panel:
"the DirectX API is a piece of crap, and the people that were
responsible should be ashamed."
