News in the modern world

(viewed 551 times)
News in the modern world for stage 5 English students, assists in developing writing and critical literacy skills. Moblogs may be used to report on news in the students' own community and collaborate with others around the world.

In this unit students explore the impact of modern technology on the way current events are reported and the issues that raises. They examine the factors that influence how the news is reported in different media, in particular radio, television and the Internet. They deconstruct the visual and verbal language of the news and compose their own items.

Picture books in English

(viewed 567 times)
Picture books are an exciting way for students to improve their reading and
writing skills. The Centre for Learning Innovation released a unit
exploring this topic for stage 4 students. Using mblog technology, students
can create their own picture book, uploading pictures from their mobile phone or another mobile communications device.

How have picture books changed since you were young? Books with
illustrations are a growing area in the Australian book market and there are
many different kinds of picture books available today.

Valle Nevado, Chile

(viewed 459 times)
This is my wonderful partner who takes me to all sorts of interesting places. Last year we went to Valle Nevado in Chile. It's 3,300 metres above sea level. We were a bit short of breath at times! No waiting for chair lifts and it takes ages to finish each ski run.

Room with a view

(viewed 395 times)
Valle Nevado, Chile Oct 2005. This is the view from our hotel room. We'd wake up to this each morning. It snows just about each night and then it's beautiful during the day to ski. It wasn't cold on the slopes at all because it's so sunny. The air is quite thin and we both got sun burnt. .
