Now 10 days old.
Nothing prepares you for this.
Had thought over the last 9 months about being ready for fatherhood. This mainly manifested itself in DIY projects, buying baby clothes and trying to make sure I didn't have too much work to do in the weeks around his due date.Thankfully it does all feel pretty natural.
Things I like:
- Having a cute baby to look at
- Being really very impressed with my wife's ability to withstand pain
- Being called Daddy
- When he's sleeping
- Lots of quiet time reading
- Looking forward to the future
- Getting obsessive over nappy contents
- Loads of lovely presents and people being lovely in general
Things I don't like:
- Lucy and Albert being admitted to a ward at 6am after he was born, me
having to go home be myself and come back later. After going through what we
went through it was a really painful wrench walking out of the hospital
alone
- Feeling of powerlessness when he won't stop crying
- Sleeping 2-3 hours a night (even less for Lucy)
Things I am strangely ambivalent about:
- Getting weed on/pooed on etc
- Vomit
- Assorted smells
All in all would definitely recommend it :)
