hello, my name is al. i make music by myself and with a band called the fictive kinship. i work in an office in london on railway related stuff and cycle to work every day. i love cooking, swimming and riding my bike all over london. i try to eat well, write good songs and not drink too much. i don't always succeed.

daddy in kilburn

(viewed 518 times)
played a gig with the daddies last night at the good ship in kilburn. turned out to be pretty good and i think we played like the brutally harmonious bastards we've become.

top pic is the band who played before us. it wasn't so much that they wanted to be like razorlight. i think they might have actually thought they were razorlight. why lord why?

the other bands were variously:

- on first, a charming trio with microphone hair and NHS specs doing clanky acoustic stuff like the shins but messier.

- the last band, an emo metal act who might well have been very tight and emo-harmonical but by the time they were three hours late for soundcheck (with the drums) they could have been captain beefheart and his magic band and i still would have taken the offer of an early ride home in phil's van.

pedal corner

(viewed 490 times)
i've been cutting down on my pedal collection lately and now tend to use only three. they being:

tuner >> volume boost >> tubescreamer

but the trusty ol' TS9 is starting to misbehave so i replaced it on saturday with a cheapo BAD MONKEY and i am very impressed so far let me tell you.

my friend maisie had a birthday party on a boat on saturday night. i wasn't looking forward to it that much. the main reason being that flower was going to meet my ex for the first time. on a boat. with no getting off. for four hours.

turns out i needn't have worried and we all had a lovely time. despite the place having all the ambienece of a mobile disco in a floating scout hut. the bar smelled of chicken fat and diesel and we were sharing the thing with three hen parties.

for all that though i have to say it was really good fun. lovely to see the river from a totally different perspective. especially the powerstations i have worked on: the now decommissioned lots road in chelsea and still very much functioning greenwich.

helpless mirth

(viewed 443 times)
here's a man (tony who sits to my right in this lovely office) in the grips of a debilitating bout of hysterical jollity on friday afternoon.

i would tell you what he was laughing at but i don't want you to think any less of him.
