SNOW BEAMS!

(viewed 496 times)
back in the city and weather's still weird. dark shafts of snowy weirdness keep forming out of the bright blue sky.

cumulus appreciation

(viewed 477 times)
this was taken from a train as i was admiring these fluffy cartoon cumulus stretching off into the kentish horizon.

the low lows

(viewed 483 times)
there was a very cool folky townes van zandt sounding act on next. they had violin, harmonies, beards and a charismatic lead singer who could pick like a demon. i don't know why i didn't take any pictures of them to be honest. ah well.

then it was these guys. don't know much about them but they're called the low lows. they're from the states somewhere and i reckon they sounded a lot like the drive by truckers. check out cheekbones on the left there. he's one busy man. he's playing:

- guitar
- harmonica (in a rack)
- organ
- bass pedals with his feet

he was singing harmonies too. they played awesome epic americana sounding stuff. great band. am off to find out more about them now.

the love birds

played a gig with my "other" band the tacticians on saturday night in brixton.

this guy was the first act i saw. it was him and his beat up acoustic through an overdrive pedal and a couple of old time pub rockers supporting him on drums and bass. all his songs were either one stonsey riff jammed out over 3 minutes or occasionally a couple of chords by way of a chorus. they were all about about sleazy sex, rock n roll and sleazy sex AND rock n roll. good dirty fun.

always have a book

(viewed 400 times)
it's a habit i've got out of now i cycle nearly everywhere. school boy error. so having exhausted the pitiful free rags that litter the upholstry and finished my take-away beer i had to resort to self-portaiture to entertain myself on the long night bus ride back from wherever i'd ended up.

this is my attempt at "eloquently wasted" (aka drunk and deludedly trying to communicate by eyebrow manipulation alone)

hel-lo!

the bridge gang sound a bit like nirvana covering 60s girl group death songs. they're one of the firecest and sexiest live bands about. sadly last night was their last ever gig. it was a bit like watching a divorce played out on stage. occasionally uncomfortable but kind of compelling. their third and last single is coming out this year. i'm guessing the launch party will be a bit weird.

the sequins

went to a sounds xp gig in camden last night . this is the guitar player from the sequins, showing off his plastic flowers, brian may signature guitar, bare feet and ear to ear grin. i've never seem anyone display such enthusiasm and obvious joy at playing live.
