So, how many of you noticed that Dundee isn't on the way to Orkney? Only after i stopped for fuel did i look at the map for directions. They said "why are you here?". What i needed was wife-Nav. Someone to say "didn't you want the A9 to Inverness?". As it was, i spent about 2 hours chasing updated autoroute maps across the scottish lowlands. Beautiful, tree lined, national park roads; perfect in the dry and in the wet so slippery that each and every corner wants to grab the back end and drag it towards a stone wall or tree. Thats why a several hour margin for the ferry turned into a mad dash to the finish. Well, that's my story and i'm sticking to it. Tune in next weekend to see if i make it home. T.

Sunday. Weather grey with a little water in the air. Roads clear and perfect. Looking forward to them drying out later in the week. At the folk festival. Great music.

Oh, i forgot to say. Petrol stop at 74 miles and an 82 mile run to the ferry. Clutch has had it. Hope it gets me off the boat again. Hope too that Ford in Kirkwall can help. Will use the petrol in the two 5litre cans I've been carrying all the way here to get me to Birsay. That's another 45 minutes drive when I get to Orkney.
