I'm a British mathematician, been in the Netherlands for 35 years ("chercher la femme"). Recently became a double proud grandfather. Have a compulsion, but it's not secret, to want to correct miscarriages of justice involving abuse of science, see Dhamaka's plea

THE 9-11 was my 50th birthday. That's why I use it in my internet name, but English fashion, 11-9. The other part is my surname.

Who are these weird guys?

(viewed 1512 times)
L-R: Me, Jonas (my French PhD student), Peter, Ole. Peter is from St. Andrews, Ole from Aarhus. And we are at Aarhus harbour looking at the tall ships (OK, so we are looking at the nice ladies who agreed to photo us). Ole has just bought some French cheeses and sausages from the market, but I don't know who he's looking at.

Oh and I forgot to say ... we are mathematicians.

Q: If you see two mathematicians talking to one another, how can you see which one is the extrovert?

A: That's the one who's looking at the *other* guy's shoes.

Dad can feed me too

(viewed 1781 times)
About a month old now.. see, he can hold his own feeding bottle. He's looking critically at his dad. He's smiling now also. Two days ago he smiled broadly at my wife while she was holding him, and explaining to my son how I made such a mess of my tax returns, yet again... What will he think of me?

Seventeenth-Century Blue and White Delft Tile

A Delft blue tile. The kind which is a source of inspiration of the card (pic nicked from internet: image credits)

Paul and Lizeta and David live in Delft, actually very close to the artist Vermeer's viewpoint in his wonderful painting view of Delft
