Streetfighter 4 in Tokyo Arcades

Oh yessssssssss. Still got da skillz.

I probably played this about 10x a day. Pretty much after or before dinner i'd visit the arcades (as they are around every corner) to dish out a drubbing, or for the majority of times receive a pasting on SF4. There was very little chance to play against the computer. All the machines were networked together so it was round after round of invisible human opponents from all over the country.

The fact that i actually did beat some tokyo kidz at Streetfighter 4 is a source of great pride.

Other games that were very popular were these weird betting games. That was the strange but cool thing about arcades in Japan - they didn't seem designed to try and rip you off and drain all you money in an hour. They were designed for you to hang around for a while, have a few games and socialise a bit with your matees or even take a date.

A lot of the games were designed to be played for a while - like this card game which is like pokemon on steroids.

And those vending machines that are just designed to rob you everywhere else in the UK - you /can/ actually WIN!

Tokyo Style

Ueno was a bit like camden market. That girl had a union jack on her skirt and looked kinda cool so had to take a picture. Found out subsequently that it's actually illegal to take pictures of someone without their permission. She didnt seem to pay any attention anyway.

That's another rare shot too, from inside a pachinko parlour - they really dont like people taking photos in there. Couldnt see the attraction of pachinko myself. Sometimes it was even disappointing as i would think it was a standard arcade and go hunting for Streetfighter 4 only to find 5 smoky floors of slot machines lined up like the doors of the matrix.
