Slated III - closure

(viewed 1106 times)
The room is now finished!

The panoramic vlew kinda makes the floor mat seem to take up half the room. It's not *quite* that big in reality.

It's not very clear, but that's a giant caterpillar holding bags in the far right corner.

Parking in Cycle Lanes

(viewed 1517 times)
I took these pictures thinking I might be able to report the eejit who parked in the cycle lane just where the path comes of the bridge and joins the road. The car was there for most of Saturday.

...but then I couldn't really think of what to do with the pictures. Other than moblog them. Anyone got any ideas?

Perhaps there should be a "" site somewhere where we can name and shame them all!

Canary Wharf

Fog over Canary Wharf on Friday morning.

Taken from a cafe on West India Quay, while I was slacking off work...

Spot the Joie

(viewed 777 times)
This pic was on the wall in my Great Aunt's house when we recently visited.

One of those kids is me!

(Probably quite easy to spot if you know me, but a little harder if you don't)

Slated II

As I was cutting the tiles I piled up the offcuts on top of the wheelie bin around my cup of tea.

This, while briefly entertaining, was foolish on two counts.

1) I couldn't get to my tea, and when I did it made the pile rather unstable.
2) I had to move them all off the top of the bin, in order to put them into it!

Tiling is all done now - just grouting to do. Yay!

Bow-Side Blisters

(viewed 4096 times)
Normally I stroke, and so my right hand has become toughened and blister-proof.

Was at bow today in a different crew, so got nice big blisters on my left hand instead!

(I now think that bow side is perhaps superior to stroke side tho, despite the blisterage)

Mr Snuffles

A cute hedgehog that was in our garden the other day.

We recently hacked down a big pampas grass thing that was in our garden, and found that there was a hedgehog nest in the bottom of it - a mother and two small ones. The mother wandered off, presumably a bit scared by our discovering them! :-(

We checked with the British Hedgehog Preservation Society who recommended we left them alone and checked the next day that the mother had returned. So I made a wooden cover thing for their nest and we left them.

The next day all threehad all gone. I hope they found a nice new nest!

Made a start on the floor today.

Slate's a bit awkward though. All the tiles are different thicknesses, and you can't cut them in the "normal" way with a "score and snap" type technique. Bought a circular-saw-esque cutting wheel which I used on the tile on the bottom left. Much more cutting tomorrow I expect.

It's not an amazingly professional job, but then I'd never done this kind of thing before, so it'll do...
