Cupcakes!

(viewed 977 times)
I'm still alive! And baking!

Actually, these were a couple of weeks ago, I just never got around to posting it :-(

These turned out pretty awesome actually - all blueberry, all the time. I also put blueberries in the batter mix, so these are a little like a cross between a muffin and a cupcake. With a Cream cheesey frosting. Mmmmm. Domo still guards them zealously :-)

It was the weeks after this that I started experimenting with buttercream...

Mutant!

(viewed 989 times)
Rose found some spectacularly mutant strawberries.

And then decided they looked like strange fruit hands. She's not wrong.

New TV

It's so shiny. And thin. Suddenly my room looks much larger - the old telly was a bit of a huge beast.

I love the way tech is all Star Trek now :-)

Dinnerblogging

(viewed 1473 times)
IN celebration of my success with the green tea cupcakes (now independently verified by flatmate who has consumed 3 so far), I decided on a Japanese themed dinner today :-)

I whipped up a load of gyoza (potstickers), which we had with assorted Japanese pickles, cucumber steeped in rice wine vinegar, hot sake and some not quite Japanese chicken in lemon, coriander and lemongrass.
The gyoza were filled with a mixture of pork, cabbage, coriander, garlic, ginger, chives and sesame oil. And they were very tasty.

I do love this cooking thing :-)

I have been baking again!

(viewed 1569 times)
Oh, these are tasty. These are Maccha (green tea) cupcakes, with maccha and white chocolate topping. The cake came out exceedingly well - you can't really see the lovely green colour in these pics :-( The topping is Marscapone (gotta love that cheese) double cream, melted white chocolate, more maccha powder and a spot of sugar. I DID use low fat versions of the cream and the cheese :-) I still don't think I can class these as healthy though :-)

And DOMO is PLEASED there are more OFFERINGS to his MIGHT! He will consume them ALL with his mighty JAWS!

Er, yes...

My personal haul from Borough market

(viewed 1579 times)
My actual purchases from the market yesterday, reflecting my personal obsessions - cheese, coffee, fine meats :-) Put them all together into a very Northern European breakfast - this reminds me of the last time I was in Berlin, long breakfasts with cheeses, coffee, salamis...yum.

Details for those who are interested, or simply want to head down to Borough Market and get their own :-)

The coffee is a Rwandan - deep and earthy, complex bitter chocalte notes. very tasty. As you can see, I had one cup with milk & sugar, and one small plain just to savour the undiluted taste.

The various cheeses - I've forgotten the name of the hard cheese. it's an alpine cheese, a mix of emental/gruyere flavour, nutty with a lingering after taste. The ginger cheese is just sublime - a soft cheddar with well distributed ginger rather than discrete chunks. Damn tasty. The Fleurette is a very young cheese of the Brie family, but this one is rather like eating fresh milky cream. Exceedingly good. The Boerenkaas is a gouda with cloves.

Bread and meat - the bread is a San Fransisco Sourdough. Very good toasted (damn I miss sourdough muffins - wish I could find those over here. you would not believe how hard it is to find anything other than sourdough rye - not that I'm not very fond of rye, but sometimes I want white) More of the amazing fresh field mushroom pate (I bought extra to freeze this time) And a pork and marjoram salami, and some wild boar chorizo round out the selection. Not a bad haul all in all.

Damn I like food :-)
