Year 2 Class Assembly

(viewed 392 times)
Today Year 2 started off the class assemblies. Their theme was African Arts Week. They demonstrated some of the drumming they learnt last week, some African dancing and presented some of their fabulous art work. Thank you to Mrs Bentley and Mrs Edwards for working so hard with the children practising for the assembly. Also, congratulations to Mrs Bentley for such a successful teaching practice. She only has one more week to go and then she can relax for the summer holidays until she takes up her first teaching post in September. I am sure we wish her all the best for the future!

African Arts Week Drumming

(viewed 401 times)
On the 17th and 18th of June, Allison Lyon, from Drums Ago-go, came to teach us about African drumming. She showed us different types of drums, like the Djembe and the Water drum, and told us where they came from (South Africa to East Africa) and what they were used for (e.g. to celebrate a good harvest). Then each class learnt a rhythm and some classes learnt a song as well. One of the songs was called Shosholoza, and comes from South Africa. At the end of the second day, all the classes showed what they had learnt to the rest of the school. It was so loud that people could hear it from quite some distance.

African Arts Week Dance

(viewed 421 times)
African Dancing

From Monday the 14th to Friday 19th June the school African Arts week was held. The African dancing was just one of the African based activities. Robert Eugene the dance teacher led it. He was born in Ghana but soon moved over to England.
Robert came to our school to teach all the classes some West African dance moves. We interviewed all the classes and found some basic moves and poses that were involved in nearly all the classes? dance routines. The most basic was to stay close to the ground, like if you were sitting on an imaginary chair.
Nearly everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Robert was very friendly and a fantastic teacher, so we look forward to him coming again and teaching us!

Thank you to Ellis Webb and his family for donating a bat box to the school.

Thank you to Mr Johnson for making another two bat boxes and for fixing them to the tree.

We've also put up a new bird box with a camera in it. There is a screen in the library where the bird box can be viewed from.

Hopefully the birds and bats will find the boxes soon
