MASTERMIND

As part of our Sport's Relief activities we held a Mastermind quiz at school today. Our thanks go to the children who volunteered to go in the chair and to the staff who organised it. Also thank you to the parents who came in to support it.

40 YEARS AS OUR LOLLIPOP LADY

Today we held a special assembly to celebrate 40 years of Mrs Wilson being our lollipop lady. Mrs Milburn (Road Safety Officer) and Councillor and Mrs Matthews came to do the presentation. The school also said thank you to Mrs Wilson and presented her with a bouquet of flowers.

Reward For 40 Years Of School Crossing Patrols
After more than 40 years running a school crossing patrol, Doris Wilson is set to be honoured with a presentation from the chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Mrs Wilson first ran a patrol in 1969, and has worked since then to make sure children in Leven can get to and from school safely.

She has looked after people in the village in heavy and light traffic, before and after the bypass was put in, and has helped three generations of some families across the road.

During her time she has never once had an accident on her watch.

Doris has been honoured twice before. Fifteen years ago she sailed through a long service award after 25-years of work, and in 2006 she was awarded a Chairman's Commendation in recognition of her 37 years of service. She has kept going, and has now passed the 40 year mark.

Councillor Christopher Matthews, chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "There can't be many people out there who have spent 40 years working to keep young people safe as they travel to and from school. Mrs Wilson deserves to be honoured for her many years of public service and I am pleased to make this presentation in recognition of all the work she has put in."

Cllr Matthews will make the presentation to Doris at 10.15am, on Thursday, March 11, at Leven Primary School.
