LEVEN AND BRANDESBURTON SPORTS DAY

Today Leven and Brandesburton teamed up for a joint morning of sports at Brandesburton. It was a great morning and the children enjoyed themselves taking part in; Kwik cricket, Rounders, Football, Basket ball, Hockey, Line dancing and two indoor activities. Our thanks go to Brandesburton for hosting the event and to all of the adults who worked so hard to make it a success. We look forward to inviting Brandeburton back to Leven in October.

WHEN I'M NOT AT SCHOOL

(viewed 268 times)
I have been invited to outline some of my hobbies.

I have been playing guitar for many, many years! I began whilst at College in London and was delighted to learn Beatles, Moody Blues and Don McLean songs. I pick up my guitars whenever I can and am lucky enough to have a few different instruments to play. I have a couple actually signed by some of my guitar heroes. Both my sons play and I enjoy learning riffs and solos from them.

As a very young lad I shared a Hornby Dublo 3 Rail train set with my brother, and the mania of model railway has stayed with me ever since; it seems to come over me in waves. I still have the original set and have added to it over the years. My Grandson and I are compiling his own Thomas the Tank Engine set which we often operate.

My final hobby is to do with the Royal Navy in the Second World War. This began as my uncle, after whom I was named, served during the conflict and was on a Destroyer, a Cruiser and a Battleship. He would often tell me his experiences, taking me around the Imperial War Museum on more than one occasion. I have many books on the subject as well as numerous models, built from kits. My Grandson and I now have a radio controlled battleship to try out in the summer.

THE TOP TABLE

(viewed 250 times)
Today we had our first top table. Well done to all of the children who were chosen by our Lunchtime Supervisors.

This is a new idea that we are going to begin in school for one lunchtime each month. The dinner ladies will select a child from each class and invite them to sit on the ‘top table’ for that lunchtime. The children will be selected on account of their good or improved behaviour, or maybe because they have been helpful, played nicely or even something that they have done that has really ‘stood out,’ at lunchtimes. The top table will have a table cloth, different cutlery, juice, place mats and serviettes and a member of staff or governor will eat with them. This is an idea that has been used successfully in other local school and we hope will be received positively by the children at Leven School.
The dates for ‘Top Table’ for the rest of this term are;
Wednesday 24.06.09
Thursday 09.07.09
The children selected will receive their invitations the week before those dates. They will also receive a certificate in recognition of their selection.
