First attempt at gingerbread construction. Worked OK. The salted caramel cement was both very effective and also extremely tasty.

Is this the first edible hyperbolic paraboloid roof?

First few captures of Jupiter from last night.

OK, technicals: Meade 8" Schmidt-Newtonian telescope: that's f4, 821mm in photography-speak. First shot is prime focus to a Philips SPC900 webcam, black and white. Second is with a 2X Barlow added, unadjusted colour.

They're both stacks of around 100 images each, aligned and stacked in Registax 6. I tried ALE but it kept rotating images so output was confused. I think there are options I can use to stop it doing that, but I'll have another go later.

First night out with the big scope this year. It's getting cold out at night now. Next up, a few hours of stacking and post-processing - might leave that until tomorrow.

I'd really like to take a chainsaw to nextdoor's tree, it's blocking my view of Orion - you can just see Betelgeuse and Bellatrix peeking over the top of it. I was wanting to image M42 tonight but it wasn't coming out from behind the tree for another few hours. A different site for the scope next time, I think.

This year I am making a gingerbread house. There is an element of competition involved.

Here is my first architectural model. I'm hoping this will be the world's first gingerbread hyperbolic paraboloid roof.

dogs on a beach

Neela came to visit, so we went to the beach. Peggy had a lot of fun. She dug some holes and ran up and down a dune.
