reaching what was the family business [July 2nd]

(viewed 382 times)
That part of town had been completely closed off until
the 2nd. I can see why; everything was coated in a
fetid mix of floodwater, assorted fuels and oils, raw
sewage and I-never-ever-want-to-know-what-else. Fuel
tanks from who-knows-where and other debris wound up
in our brushline and the grass was dead where the
hazmat stayed as the water receded, but I hear the
free kittens were OK.

another flooded park, and a bowl of beef & barley at the Spot

(viewed 336 times)
It was my aunt & uncle's tenth wedding anniversary.
You can imagine how festive we were, though. Soup was
good, regardless.

A brief tour of Wet Hell, July 1

Lots of crumpled garage doors, disintegrated
foundations and new lakes.

Squirrels on the garage roof

eating the helicopter seeds. Remarkably comfortable
around humans with noisy camera phones. Taken while
waiting to leave for the disaster site, morning of
July 1.

Little Man in my uncle's Big Recliner [July 1]

(viewed 375 times)
He got used to their living room quite quickly,
although we were shocked to see how big his turds are;
since he's never lived without a handful of other cats
in a house, I had always assumed they belonged to one
of the much larger cats. Poor guy, no wonder why he
sprints out of the litter box at sub-lightspeed.

Three photos, all essentially saying the same thing.

Buddy is going to kill you

(viewed 452 times)
We stayed at my aunt & uncle's house during the EVAC.
They were excellent hosts, but didn't mention that
their cat Buddy doesn't like closed doors. Really
doesn't like them. You can imagine how I took seeing
his paws coming in from under the bathroom door. It
was fascinating, since you could actually discern some
logical thinking from the cat, trying to getting this
door open. He didn't succeed, though.
