The Tree of Life

(viewed 232 times)
Its been another interesting year! In fact the last couple of years have been incredibly hard, but I continue to look for the humor in things however macarbre or bizzare, (I've been reliably informed this is in fact called sanity).

I'm glad that Moblog seems to be well and that all my old friends are still here or returning. I still prefer this place to anywhere else on the internet.

I wish you all a healthy, hopeful, peaceful and interestingly enjoyable year. Hope to see more of you all here in 2012. Lou xxx

Lest we forget...........................

Suicide in the Trenches
(published in the Cambridge Magazine, 23 February 1918)

I knew a simple soldier boy
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
No one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.
