Scoopt Shared Moblog Launches

'We've just launched a shared moblog with Scoopt, the citizen journalism agency.

We recognise that you as a moblogUK member are amongst those most likely to know what to do with a newsworthy image or video that you've captured; ordinarily, you'd send it to your moblog. By partnering with Scoopt we are able to offer a shared space where you can send in any images that you think are worthy of print.

Mostly for celebrity and breaking news shots, this shared moblog exists for you to post images that you think the traditional press would want to publish, and you make money along the way, in fact Scoopt shares whatever fee they get with you 50/50.

Scoopt will represent your rights in selling your posts to the worldwide press, and you don't need to do anything different, just post to scoopt (at) moblg (dot) net as usual from your cameraphone or email client.

As far as we know this is a world first, that is, a photo sharing site creating a way for it's members to have their content marketed to the press, and we want to know what you think, there is a forum post for discussion

here, and you can see the moblog here.

This moblog is open to moblogUK members only.

Site Updates!

The first big site upgrade of 2006 is here! We've made some improvements to the user experience, added some fantastic new features and upgraded existing ones.

Getting ahead in advertising

We've listened to what you had to say on advertising, and we've changed the way it works.

Adverts will no longer be shown on subscriber's moblogs, regardless of who is looking at them. moblogUK pages won't display adverts to subscribers, as is the case already. Free moblogs will display adverts to anyone who looks at them, and some pages will feature an extra advertising slot.

We hope this arrangement will work better for everyone. We will continue to monitor the situation, and we welcome suggestions or comments in the forum.

New and improved

We really wanted to give something back to our subscribers this time so we've raised the maximum message size (3Mb!) and created some cool new features.

New!

Graphical friends lists for subscribers (thanks to Angel for inspiration).

Who's watching me lists for free accounts.

Extra high quality image resizing for subscribers and improved basic quality for free accounts.

EXIF information, such as the time an image was taken and the model of the phone used, is now preserved in subscribers images.

Latest image link and basic comment tracker now available to free accounts.

Get an email update if someone adds you to their friends list.

Improved!

Message size limit raised to 3Mb for subscribers.

Profile page updated and enhanced.

Adverts removed from subscriber's moblogs and the front page.

Very long friends lists no longer break pages — get more friends!

Subscriber's friends page streamlined, comment tracker extended.

Latest news a bit more visible!

Not so great!

The Southern Sunset and Plastik themes have been removed from the site — the new changes just wouldn't fit. Users who had selected these themes have been reset to the default, our apologies for any inconvenience.

Join the fun

It's now (slightly) easier to get moblogging and (much) easier to upgrade your account and become a subscriber.

We've added the create a moblog link to the site navigation. That's just the start, we'll be doing much more to help new users get on board.

And for those of you who haven't subscribed yet, we've made it easier to upgrade as well. You can now create longer-term subscriptions of 6 and 12 months and have the option to subscribe without needing a Paypal account. We've created a nice upgrade page that explains all the great stuff you get

We hope that you will continue to enjoy the site and the community. We'll be adding many more new features and enhancements during the rest of 2006 to make moblogUK even better. Your comments and suggestions are always appreciated. If you have ideas please post them in the forum.

Until next time, happy moblogging.
