moblog uk

user profiles

you now all have a profile page!

All users now have a profile page - it doesn't show much, but there's plenty of space to put things in. The 'edit profile' page has been extended, and has a few more features as well.

You'll find the link to someone's profile just below their name on their moblog.

Sprint Users

Good news!

After some reading, some emailing of people and a long night hacking php around, we may now be able to accept Sprint Picture Shares. (sprint don't send an image in the email, they send a link to a webpage with the image in)

We say 'may', as being based in the UK means we don't have any Sprint phones to test with, so we'd really appreciate you trying a couple of posts if you do have one.

Fingers crossed!

you may now restrict comments

In your profile page, you should now see an option to select who can post comments to your moblog - anyone, registered users only, or no-one at all.

The default setting is to allow anyone to post.

theme-a-thon

new default theme

Inspired by both Dan and piece'o, we present clean three No preview, you can see it right here, as it's the new site default. The old default is still available, if you want it, from the 'edit profile' page - it's called five by five.

How exciting..

new comments display

see, down there on the right..

It has been increasingly apparant that the comment links on the front page aren't working very well - one keeps getting sent back to the same page over and over again, which is annoying.

So, they've been changed. What happens now is that each individual post will only ever appear in the list once, with the latest commenter on that post underneath. The latest comment will still be at the top, but the second latest comment may not be the second link. It sounds complicated, but it's dead simple really - you'll see.

Posts that do not have titles will have their date and time of arrival displayed, which should help with keeping track of what's what. The time of the latest comment appears after the commenter's name.

We're going to keep tabs on things and see if this system works better, but we're confident it will. Comments are welcome, to the forum or by email, as ever.

WELCOME BACK!

to shiny new server!

Hooray!

That was fairly painless. We're on the new server now, and it's a lot faster, as you can probably tell.

Everything (apart from the forum) seems to be working ok, but if you have any (abnormal) problems, please let us know and we'll get on it right away.

The forum will be fixed as soon as possible, but we wanted to get the main site back up as fast as possible.

IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENTS

please read. thankyou.

-- FIRST IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENT --

As you may have noticed, we've been having some trouble with our server, and we're going to be be moving to a new machine very soon. This will, sadly, involve some downtime for the site as first the content, then the domain is moved over.

The timeline (GMT) goes something like this:

Sat Mar 05, afternoon:

- data transfer to new server

- the site will NOT be accessible in any way during this time.

Sat Mar 05, evening:

- data transfer complete, and tested

- site is available on m3log.net - you may send mail to m3log.net to submit at this point.

Mon Mar 07, afternoon:

- the transfer of the moblg.net domain (and any others) should be complete by this point, and moblg.net will (hopefully) be functioning normally. Or better than normally, we're hoping!

m3log.net will continue to work indefinitely.

There are a few minor improvements on the current site, just a few little tweaks and polishes. We'll be looking over any current problems with the site as soon as things are stable on the new server, and hopefully we'll be able to improve on the current rate of successful posting (we're getting around 80-90% of images correctly now, but that can certainly be improved on!)

-- SECOND IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENT --

The way latest images work have changed - please check the link on your blog (you must be logged in, and you must have donated) to get the new link target (from m3log.net, or moblg.net after March 7th). Everything else works just as before. The old target will continue to work for some time after the changeover, but no more than a couple of months. You should notice that if you post an image, then delete the blog entry with it in, your latest image will still be that image. This will be resolved once the server move is over.

Thankyou for your time, and we apologise for the inconvienience, but a new server should dramatically improve the site's uptime and performance.
