Moblog, version 2

Welcome to Moblog, version 2. We have dropped the UK from our name and are now simply Moblog. You may have noticed we're on a new url - moblog.net. The moblog.co.uk domain will continue to work, but you might want to update your bookmarks anyway. Migration to the new platform went smoothly, but if you experience any teething troubles in the first few days, or if anything seems to be wrong, or has got lost, please drop us a line via the contact page.

New in version 2:

There are a great many new features and things that have changed on Moblog in version 2, so do poke around the site to see what's there. You can find a full list of changes on this page. Here are a few highlights:

  • Maps: Every Moblog user now has their own map which they can add their posts to either manually, or if you use a geotagging handset, automatically.
  • Audio Blogging: We have partnered with voice to text company Spinvox, you can now just call a number, dictate your post, and it will be posted straight to your moblog.
  • Posting: Post by SMS, MMS, Email, mobile or web browser, or even just by calling a number
  • Groups: Shared moblogs have now become group moblogs. All your old favourite shared moblogs are there. You may need to join some groups to be able to post, and you can easily create your own. Subscribers are able to create Groups which have subscriber level features such as custom CSS, and higher upload limits
  • Domains: Moblog subscribers are able to run their moblogs from their own URL's, including their mobile versions.

Other Peoples Photographs Too

A history of Folkestone through photographs

This Saturday gone we launched a new moblogging site for a public arts charity based in Folkestone. The site is part of a larger public arts project which sees hundreds of images from over a century of life in Folkestone installed on streets throughout the town.

The site catalogues all of these images, as well as invites Folkestone residents to send their own images in, creating a living breathing photographic document of life in Folkestone.

It's really quite wonderful browsing through these images, some from as far back as 1886 and those posted today side by side.

You can visit the site online here or on your mobile phone.

Coming Soon

moblog version 2

We haven't been updating moblog:uk much recently as we've been very busy creating a whole new site - moblog2. We've worked really hard at improving how the site works and what it can do for you, so that your moblogging is easier and more feature-packed than ever before. Here's just a small sample of some of the great new things that will be coming soon:

Maps - add your posts to your own map, and be a part of the sitewide map. Search for pictures by location, maybe even find a moblogger near you!

New tabbed profile editor - streamlined access to all of your profile features using tabs, and a brand new personal profile page.

Audio blogging - moblog just by calling a number. We have dedicated numbers in Spain, Germany, France, the UK and the USA that you can call and dictate a message. That message is then translated into text and posted along with the original audio into your moblog.

Auto-syndication - automatically send your moblog updates to a number of different sites including Twitter, Google Blogs and Technorati.

Site moderators and editors will be getting exclusive invites to help us test the new site soon, or please email us here if you'd like to be a tester. Unfortunately there may not be space for everyone to be on the test list, so please don't be disappointed if we can't fit you in.

moblog:UK Advent Calendar

Jc and Nige have orchestrated the creation of our very own moblog:UK advent calendar. If you'd like to share it with friends and family, you might want to point them at the more easily remembered/typed URL: www.adventcalendar.org.

We have created a nifty little advent calendar you can place in the sidebar of your own moblog, or on any other website you might like to:

brought to you by adventcalendar.org

Put this Advent Calendar on your own moblog or other website easily by copying the below code and placing it in the desired area (for moblogs, just put it in the area labelled 'Introduction' in your profile)

City Clickers competition extended

The City Clickers competition has now been extended for entries, and will be open until midnight the 30th November
Nov. 27, 2007, 8:23 a.m.

Last chance to enter City Clickers

The City Clickers competition closes on Sunday the 25th at midnight, so you have about a day left to get your entries in.

2 winners from each country (UK, Netherlands, France, Germany and Spain) will be chosen, each winning an LG Viewty cameraphone, a real beauty capable of 120fps video and with a 5 megapixel camera. Each winner will also have their phone bill paid for two months, so it's a doozie of a prize.

These 10 winners will then be using the City Clickers moblog to document their lives, their country, and their city.
