"Dull is the soul of he who would pass by"

(viewed 7911 times)
One I snapped on my mobile up in the Lake District, but couldn't post at the time due to the lack of signal.

This stone bench was just outside of our farmhouse at the foot of the Coniston Old Man. It was commissioned by a local woman in memory of her husband, and in the corner was the above quote, which I looked up, and turns out to be an edited version of a Wordsworth extract:

“Dull would he be of soul who could pass by a sight so touching in its majesty”.

I was quite overcome with emotion for a few moments whilst I sat there and looked up. What a lovely tribute.

River deep, mountain high

Never in a million years did I think a weekend of walking and scenery stealing in the Lake District would be of remote interest to me. Walking for the hell of it has always bored me, and I can't stand landscapes; hence walking up mountains to view even more mountains and valleys was not my idea of four days best spent. Or so I thought...

In a nutshell, I'm hooked, and we've already booked our next trip there, for a week in June. All of the Wainrights must be toppled :)

Huge thanks to Jane Doe for the advice on how best to spend the time, and big smiles to parabolichobo and kyoob who dropped some amusing comments on my Facebook updates whilst I was up there.

Photo 6 taken at the top of the Coniston Old Man, courtesy of a nearby cragger who was kind enough to remove his hands from his gloves at -17 for long enough to take the shot :)

Off the wall

This guy was twanging away with an enormous amount of soul. He brought a smile to everyone who walked by.

Seated man, Portobello Road

I spent ages watching this chap. Seeing him sit there next to the others standing and waiting for the bus made me think about how much I take my health and youth for granted.

A bit bigger here:

Midlands Moblog Meet

(viewed 2206 times)
Hardly got any photos and I could only stay for two hours (I was on crutches as my leg is buggered), but it was great to see everyone and catch up on some stories.

More meets required!

Father of the Nige

One of my cousins sent me this picture of my Dad and a friend of his, taken back in the 70's. I think you can probably guess which one he is.

Looking at it makes me see of my father in a certain way; a manner in which I haven't considered him in quite some time. It's nice to be reminded of his youthful essence once in a while.
