WINTERWEAR

(viewed 387 times)
Three punctures in as many days can only mean one thing.
Time for some new winter wellies for Charlotte Church - Bontrager Connection
Trail came recommended and are an interesting design - bit knobblier than my
last tyres, but with a central ridge, so for road riding you just inflate
them more and ride the ridge, at least that's the theory. Nice and cheap at
?17.50 the pair too.

WHILE I WAS THERE...

(viewed 555 times)
... I downloaded the Park Tools catalogue, and found where to buy a Rivnut
Tool
http://www.bazaarbuilder.com/cgi-bin/instoneb/myshop.php?catparid5&merchant;=instoneb#">(linky).
/> I considered dismantling a wheel to test out the spindle idea but decided it
wasn't worth completely stripping a wheel down for.

HUZZAH!

(viewed 333 times)
The nut is out! Sheer brute force won over in the end - I got a grip on the boss's lip (there's a phrase you don't hear often enough!) with a pair
of pliers then went at the nut with a hex key, and it eventually gave in.
The Superglue I applied earlier had no effect, so I've given the area a good
dousing with meths and I shall reapply superglue and leave overnight this
time. If that fails I shall try the Park Tools method, once I can make head
or tail of it!

NOT A JOB FOR THE SHAKY OF HAND

(viewed 399 times)
One of the bottlecage braze-ons turns in its seating, so no way of undoing
the nut. I was hoping one of the local bike shops might be able to rebraze
it, but drew blanks everywhere. However, it was suggested that I try
supergluing it to the tube, with liquid superglue so it can seep into the
cracks. I hate meddling with Superglue at the best of times, but I've
managed to do it without sticking the bike to my face, and I'm now waiting
for it to harden.

TENBY AFTER DARK

(viewed 349 times)
...cycled to Tenby and back over the Ridgeway for my meditation class (which
was excellent). Not much time or inclination for photos as it was very
blustery, especially up on the Ridgeway. My new light is well worth the
money - particularly good for getting oncoming motorists to dip their
lights, which is an added boon. It's 2 weeks since I last went and it's
noticeable how early the darkness is descending these days - roll on
December 21st!
(I managed both ascents without having to get off and walk at all -
particularly at the Tenby end this is no mean feat - from Penally to the top
is a real killer climb, and I'm sure my success was partially down to the
fact that I couldn't see beyond my lights, but quite an achievement, and no
twinges from the new scars either, which is a good sign)

NOW YOU SEE ME...

(viewed 363 times)
Now You Don't. With headlamp/without headlamp, as the camera saw it. No jiggery pokery involved, these are untouched shots from my handlebars, and I only went up to the top road, which isn't that dark compared to some!
