I'm a mobile and web busybody, blogger and mobile commentator type person.
Jeez. This is what I get for just picking at images when I should be working. Sorry for any offence guys.
Wikinews question:
Hi, can you explain more about where and at what time precisely this photo was taken?
might be handy to add it directly to this page:
http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Image:Trapped_underground.jpg
:) Just wanted to make sure you found out and fast. You and yours all right then?
Yes we're all ok thanks. Fortunately far enough away from all this. You ok? I saw you and mrs540 were discussing fencing last night.
I'm okay. Very concerned- I remember this all too well from three years ago. I was on my way to bed when this happened. Awake now, obviously.
Yes, was talking about fencing last night. Much fun. She's quite nice.
Like I said before, she's the best :)
All this terrorist stuff must bring back some bad memories for you though
above ground, the pic was taken on a camphone by one of tabs colleagues, just getting personal inofrmation from him now.
(certainly feels more like it was yesterday, than three years ago, at the moment... )
I'm not even in London and I'm worried. I wasn't in the country when 911 happened and i have few friends in NY. This is a bit freaky for me now cause I have many friends in London.
This is just unbelievable ...
The latest reports are of 6 scattered explosions. Just praying that everyone is ok!
This image taken by Keith Tagg Adam Stacey. He was on the northern line just past Kings Cross. Train suddenly stopped and filled with smoke. People in carriage smashed tube windows to get out and then were evacuated along the train tunnel. He's suffering from smoke inhalation but fine otherwise.
alfie. I KNOW what it's like to be in the middle of this situation. I lived in Manchester. My flat was on the roof of the Arndale Centre. I walked past the van that blew up about 3/4 hour before the city centre was evacuated. It was a terrifying experience that I would never want to live through it again. Not to mention that I was temporarily homeless because we didn't know if the building was safe, and I couldn't get into work because our office was on the edge of the blast zone. The original comment I made was innappropriate, thought I didn't know that at the time, it would have been more inappropriate to leave it once I knew the context. Again sorry if any offence was caused.
"The original comment I made was innappropriate, thought I didn't know that at the time"
exactly, dont worry mate, my bad for assuming you knew.
does anyone know if they're still evacuating the tube/ what the specifics are on that? they're finally done with the "power surge" bit, on the news here, and have talked to some people who've left after being stuck 20+ minutes underground., but I'm not understanding if that's just from one spot or not.
I hope you dont mind but I sent it into Sky news. ( with photo credit to Keith Tagg)
thats what the cc is for, Ive had Associated press contactme, as well as an Israeli daily news source.
here is the link for the bbc page with live video :
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4659093.stm
/>
just keep hitting play until it works is the best plan.
Just seen on Sky News...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/iambigred/24230716/
Nope they just said this photo was sent in by one of our viewers Keith Tagg and then they went on to describe the pic
probably a good thing they didn't mention us the view count on this would sky-rocket ( I have a feeling it will anyhow)
the image is now on the sky news website at http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1188273,00.html
There are no credits just a note that it is "Passenger's camera photo"
dont know, but the creative commies reference on the post seems a bit inappropriate to me...
h4nne5 thats the license that the image is released under, it's nothing to do with commies.
hey H4nnes, the reason was that without it, it would not have been picked up as it has been by traditional news sources, it would have ahd to go through AP, sold etc, this way it is free to use for any organisation, and it is an important image I think.
BBC has picked up the pic here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/4659489.stm
/>
With the following quote:
This photo by Adam Stacey is available on the internet and claims to show people trapped on the underground system.
the commies thing wasnt meant serious (the t-shirt!) i know it's commons!
@alfie: seems to be a good point. i had a wrong impression it was to promote the creative commons.
;-)
Don't worry about us. We'll be fine. Everyone gets their turn at being hit by terrorists, and the important thing is NOT TO LET THEM WIN. Britain is not "burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern and western quarters". Yes, lives have been lost, and yes, it's terrible, but as a nation we will shrug this off and continue to do what we believe is the right thing. We will continue to help the people of Iraq to recover from their years of oppression, which we deeply regret our part in imposing on them many years ago.
glad to hear you're ok, alf, was really frightening in central london this morning. i'm home ok now too and as far as i know all my mates are either home or in their offices. lots of love.
long story - was on piccadilly line which terminated at manor house at 0905, was told to get bus to finsbury park and get victoria line... obviously that was closed too, so went back to manor house and got bus towards holborn, which terminated at islington. But instead of telling us to go home, they told us to get on another one - which then stopped on farringdon road. Again, though, instead of saying, right guys, try and go home, they just chucked us off. So i walked down to work and found police turning everyone away. Didn't know what to do except walk home and avoid train stations, so just walked as far as essex road, then managed to get a cab back to turnpike lane. I feel really shocked and really lucky (russell square is the station i use for work.)
I'm really angry that I was allowed to get as far into london as i was though, and i hope that didn't cause people to get hurt.
Hey Dean, cheers mate - Im at home with incredibly bad tooth, but I cycle in at any rate. I was initially a little worried about tabby, as she normally cycles but took the train today, right through Kings Cross, but she's fine and in a warm office. SO nice seeing you here mate.
Alfie, kel, once you feel up to it, any chance you could stop by Wikinews and check to make sure we've got it right?

/>
We really need some more reporters on this event who were actually involved, not just listening to the radio. If you're not familiar with how wikinews works, just leave some notes on the discussion page, we'll clean 'em up and add them to the article.
I'm glad you made it out okay.
"then managed to get a cab back to turnpike lane. "
good, and hey, I didnt know you guys lived just there, I used to be based out there.
"I'm really angry that I was allowed to get as far into london as i was though"
Phoenix said above that at 7.30 in the morning he noticed that all the down escalators had been switched off at a station, who knows what Underground staff and mangers were thinking in the midst of all this.
yeah, our tube driver told us that 'there is a power surge at king's cross, we don't know how long we'll have to wait at this station, go to finsbury park'
only been living in turnpike lane for a couple of months, boy am I glad i wasn't having to try and get back to croydon...
(Tim - i'll have a look at that, but I'm not sure how much help i'd be)
Just woke up to this. Tears and prayers to everyone effected.
Elf - keep me posted on this side of the Atlantic as to anything that needs doing.
I've been at work for half an hour in the U.S. (9:30 a.m. EST) and just found this site through Flickr after seeing your photo on BBC and the Guardian. Very impressive for a camera phone image, as well as for you keeping your cool through th experience.
I'm glad to hear that you and your mates made it out of the UG all right and I hope that things clear up soon in London. It's very frightening to be shown how fragile our lives can be, how delicate the skins we wear really are.
The U.S.'s thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
Sarah
Thanks Sarah, just to be clear, this is an image captured by a friend that works with my girlfriend. He was very cool, I think reasoned flight was the order of the day, although there are reports that there are still people trapped on the underground.
Man, Moblog first with the news once again. Shame it couldn't be in happier circumstances.
Hearts and thoughts going out to you from Colorado, and thanks to all here for posting information. Helps to know there are ways to connect through all this.
We all are sending thoughts of strength and support your way, and are with you as we watch this unfold.
Be well...

21121 views at 1643, this image definitely stirs something deep inside. Sympathies to all.
It's a sad day. The only real losers in all of this are the unfortunate people who happened to be going about their daily business when some sick, twisted, evil minded bunch of morons figured they would become martyrs for "the cause". Whatever the f**k that may be.
I hope the people who did this rot in hell.
:(
Glad the photographer of this got out safely. I have ridden on the Underground in London during my visits there a few years back and can only imagine how horrible it must have been to have them start to fill with smoke.
An amazing and disturbing shot. I'm so glad to see the UK folks checking in on their moblogs.
We are thinking of you.
Sending prayers and hugs to all my UK friends and their families.
Love,
Sara
cnn is posting our moblog photos. so so glad to hear you're alright alfie, everyone else is accounted for to then?
this photo, is one of the ones being shown in the background feed while the anchors are talking -- they've had continual feed all day, but its another source perhaps Sky or BBC they're showing images from, just saw this photo three or four times in the loop.
I think this photo was taken on the same train (same person?)
http://www.buzznet.com/buzzwords/london/?id=1397830
no, the one adam was on managed to make it into a station, I believe the above is from the aldgate train.
Alfie - you rock, this is such an important image as it brings home the horror of an underground attack and highlights the importance of recognising that everyone can define the news. You also rock cos you released it under CC so that the world could see it.
So relieved everyone is OK.
Paula Le Dieu
london CCi staffer watching in horror from New York.
Yesterday while in the supermarket, I was shopping for foods, veggies, etc -- anyhow -- got up the line to checkout and there was a huge wait. There was an angry looking middleaged white man with an overflowing basket of food grumbling under his breath about the store and "why don't they open another line, Americans are waiting in line!!" very hostile. He was making everyone pretty anxious -- then a young black girl appeared kinda close to where I was standing in line waiting, with a baby on her hip and two items in her hand, milk and diapers. I offered her to go ahead of me and from behind the angry man began shouting.
"You're what's wrong with the world, goddamned American always letting foreigners cut in line, first it's the blacks, then its the Muslims, next it'll be the Orientals..." he went on, and on and on. The girls baby began to cry and I was just about to say something to him when a guy in the next line over in army fatigues spoke up.
"No, you're what's wrong with the world, bigotry and hatred and complete ignorance, you're who causes wars and hate, you should be ashamed of yourself."
I don't think the old man said another word, in fact, everything was silent. I know this incident yesterday fails in comparison to the magnitude of today's events in London, but I can't help think that if everyone took a moment to realize how precious life is and just love eachother, tragedies such as this would never happen. I know it's a far fetched wish -- I just don't know what else to say.
I don't know who's right or wrong in this whole war.. all the deaths and horror seem to outweigh the possibility of real peace, for me, anyway. I just wish the aggressors would stop harming innocent people, on both sides.
i am watching the news now i am disgusted that this should happen we have a army to protect us but they are everywhere else in the world protecting others and the people they are trying to protect are over here killing us what is going on is this ever going to stop. why the people who work in london are keeping the world running the leaders are protected well leaders listen to this the public will not put up with this 4 ever DO SOMETHING!
I hope all of you in the UK and London especially are all safe & OK!
I feel for all of our brothers and sisters from the UK. Man it sure brings back memories of 9-11. But I know that the British have the same resolve that the Americans have. And I know that they will rise above and be a stronger people because of this. God bless you all from Alabama, USA.
I think the goverment needs to think about paying our emergency services more and think about housing them closer to work for this reason. If people come to this coumtry and cannot prove who they are and what criminal history they may have then they should be sent straight home they dont even know where these people are they come here then disapear to cause havoc on our country its despicable this should be happening this day and age the people respnsible probably have a free pass to travel on london transport while the people who pay to travel to work who pay taxes which fund these bus passes get blown up by them its NOT FAIR.my heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragic event
You are entitled to your opinion nipper, but I disagree, this is nothing to do with race, or ethnicity, this is about religious extremism.
I'm proud to live in a country where people are accepted regardless of where in the world they were born, or what colour their skin is.
The minority should not be allowed to jade your opinion of the majority.
Dont stand too close, we're funny about all that us Brits.
but thanks for the sentiment,
good point - Im gonna find him and ask him to fill out a lottery form for me, thanks for the idea ;)

Perhaps if the American government stopped behaving in such a thoughtless, imperialist and racist way the battle would be that much shorter.
ALL this is AMERICA'S fault. ALL OF IT.
You are so out of line. You have not called this one correctly. America did not invent racism or imperialism not are we the only country perpetuating any of the isms your site has accused us of doing. Look at the brouhahha over Prince Rainier biracial grandson. All we hear across the pond is that this child is muddying up the bloodline of the dynasty. All of Europe is racis. Period, including jolly ole England. What hypocricy!
"ALL this is AMERICA'S fault. ALL OF IT"
Rich: Don't mean to offend you but in my opinion that's a fairly racist staement in itself. You can't blame all of America just because you don't like their government. That isn't the way to get people sitting down together to discuss their differences. All it does is knocks down bridges and widens any gaps that are already there.
I agree whoeheartedly w/540air: calmer heads should and must prevail in times of turmoil. Besides the bloodshed of innocent human beings, one of the aims of terrorist is the age-old strategy of diviide and conquer. There is no reason to take the bait. If possible, England should enlist the financial help of all the countries that will participate in the Olympics 2012 events. Condolences to all the bereaved families.
I can blame the American government though, which is what I was doing. My American friends are all wonderful, blameless human beings who happen to live in a country which has employed genocide as a tool of foreign policy for over 50 years. You can get all touchy-feely spacktard "hey let's not play the blame game" if that makes you feel better but that doesn't change the facts. America created Al Qaida, America armed Saddam Hussain, America has blindly supported Israel in it's oppression
of Palestine, etc etc etc. And that's before we get onto South America, the far east....
I was being slightly overzealous though, I will admit. Britain has done more than it's fair share to earn the enmity of the middle east. So it's more accurately a 70/30 split on the blame front.
Rich - that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. It is a shame that you can look at this devestation caused by awful people and not put the full blame on the people who actually did it. Be careful before your reasoning becomes as twisted as the sick people who did this!!
Rich,
As a 9/11 survivor I find it offensive for you to blame America. I think you may want to study a little about British history. The seeds of this anger may go back to the period of English colonialism. Remember "the sun never set on the British Empire". As for the citizens of the United Kingdom, I will keep them in my prayers. I understand their pain. I hope that all those that lost love ones at the hands of these cowardly individuals will find peace one day.
Did you actually read what I said? How I blamed us too? And as a 9/11 survivor why don't you go and read a little bit more about America's recent history? Then you might understand a little about the reason WHY you got attacked rather than just "they the bad men, we gon 'tack them good"
Whatever, I just get sick of all the jingoistic bullcrap "Oh, we must beat these evil people who are evil because they're evil and we're totally blameless, blah blah blah."
Rich,
The comment made ending with "70/30 blame split" I would tend to agree with. My point was that as you mentioned you were being a bit over zealous.
The US and UK govs have a lot to answer for but the vast majority of US & UK citizens are normal blameless people who get sh*t on from a great height.
[edit]
The "It's all America's" fault comment just invites the jingoistic comments that have been appearing since.
Wow - amazing how a weblog of such warm well-wishers from across the globe can turn so angry in a split second. The answer, of course, is you're both right. Al Qaida was created as a direct response to American foreign policy - and there's no question there as Bin Laden has said this over and over again.
Of course there's racism in Europe - there's racism in America - there's racism everywhere - and it's usually caused by sheer ignorance. People don't like what they don't understand.
What the global community has a hard time understanding, though, is America's recent foreign policy maneuvers. Going after Al Queda after 911 made sense, going after the Taliban in Afganistan made sense since that was where a lot of Al Quaida resources were - but where the heck did invading Iraq come from? They had nothing to so with Al Quaida or 911, had no weapons of mass distruction, and the US actually diverted resources away from the war on terrorism to go after Sadam. It kind of leaves the world scratching its head.
Invading Iraq was probably the best gift George Bush could ever give Al Quaida as they now have another foreign policy reason to continue to go after the West since Iraq was an Islamic state. And lets not forget that the UK was strongly shoulder to shoulder with the US in this little foray into Iraq. We reap what we sow...
Oh fuck off Tim, why is it Americans always roll that one out when they feel they have to win an argument? Entering a war several years late after continuing an economic relationship with Nazi Germany, yeah, you go right ahead and feel proud about that bucko.
I'm ending this conversation now, because it's only going to get stupid and there's no way anything useful will come out of this cross atlantic dickwaving.
540air, apologies if I offended you, but it's been incredibly frustrating having to live with nearly 4 years of vile neocon rhetoric and masturbatory expressions of grief over an event, while shocking and unique and terrible, is a mere drop in the ocean compared to what we in the west have visited on the rest of the world.
What was it Malcolm X said about chickens and their roosting habits?
As an American. I am deeply offended by some of the statements on this site. We do not share the blame in this tragedy...not 70% not even .05% Our foreign policies are not responsible for terrorist taking innocent lives. Please make me understand your position. Uhhh talk to me as if I was 9 or 10. Expand on your logic...Explain how our policies promoted this tragedy. I am waiting.....You know what you will never explain to my satisfaction. Never. you Rich are an asshole.
The only people responsible for yesterday's atrocities are the maniacs who detonated the bombs.
Let's have a little more mutual support for civilians who have been turned into frontline soldiers by godless idiots.
As an american, I am upset that people make generalizations about what Britains or Americans believe.<
