BACKGROUND
For 20 years I have been making a note of the name of each pub or bar that I have drank alcohol in. So does my brother. This has developed into a full blown obsession, trying to stay in front of him. At the last count up I was 44 in front. I intend to keep it that way.

(Date Visited: 5/3/2007)

Good old fashioned Tetley house with a decent atmosphere and good quality beer.

Pub 2593: Angel, Paddock, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire

(viewed 1008 times)
(Date Visited: 05/03/2007)

Modern soulless pub opened up into one large room. Popular pool area and frequented by the younger end of the market. Not particularly pleasant.

Shocking one roomed local. I was the only person in the bar, everybody else was tabbing it outside.

New Pubs 2584 - 2590 (Selby)

2590: No. 23, Selby, North Yorkshire (Date Visited:
25/2/2007)

Pretty much everything I dislike about some refurbished boozers. It has had it's heart ripped out in an effort to modernise. The new wood everywhere didn't seem to work and the polish used on it almost tainted the taste of the beer.

2589: Bay Horse, Selby, North Yorkshire (Date Visited: 25/2/2007)
Two roomed pub in the market place with a welcoming feel. A fleeting visit. I must have had quite a lean on when taking the photo!

2588: Blackamoor Head, Selby, North Yorkshire (Date Visited: 25/2/2007)
Large one roomed pub with central servery. Each side of the pub has it's own distinctive feel from the floorboarded games room/weekend dancing area and a traditional carpeted pubby side.

2587: New Inn, Selby, North Yorkshire (Date Visited: 25/2/2007)
Very friendly local's pub with a welcome for passers by. Three decent ales on offer to be drank in the large lounge at the rear, or the cosy snug to the front. Pity I was pushed for time.

2586: Cricketers, Selby, North Yorkshire (Date Visited: 25/2/2007)
Friendly local's pub in the centre of Selby. Always busy and probably helped by Sam Smith's keen pricing policy, but this wood boarded pub is good enough to attract punters despite that.

2585: Abbey Vaults, Selby, North Yorkshire (Date Visited: 25/2/2007)
Large modern pub which seems to cater the younger end of the market. Large games area and no real ale. Offers a good range of cheap pub grub.
(Marston's Smooth) **

2584: Londesborough Arms, Selby, North Yorkshire (Date Visited: 25/2/2007)
Large hotel with a public bar/restaurant. Recently refurbished to a good standard, this place offers a welcome to drinkers as well as diners. A cask ale wouldn't go amiss however.

New Pubs 2580 - 2583

(viewed 1006 times)
2583: Turnpike Inn, Ferrybridge, West Yorkshire (Date Visited: 24/2/07)
Typical Brewers Fayre pub with Brewsters play area. One of the better one though.
(Guinness) **

2582: White Hart, Askern, South Yorkshire (Date Visited: 24/2/07)
Strange pub that has seen it's interior ripped out. A very popular pool table dominates one room, the clientele were a tad frightening though.

2581: Red Lion, Askern, South Yorkshire (Date Visited: 24/2/07)
Pleasant enough pub opposite the boating lake. Seemed to have been refurbished only using pine.
(Stones Bitter) **

2580: Baxters Arms, Fenwick, Doncaster, South Yorkshire (Date Visited: 24/2/07)
Found at the third time of asking, this pub is in the middle of knowhere. A large whitewashed pub with one large room and a nice pleasant atmosphere. Clearly trying to build up its food trade, but this pub is well worth seeking out. Nice large beer garden with swings for the kids.

New Pubs 2578 - 2579

(viewed 863 times)
2579: Blackmoor Head, Pontefract, West Yorkshire (Date Visited: 13/2/07)
Large town centre pub that has been extensively refurbished and with it's soul ripped out. Aiming for a trendier night crowd, it did very little for me.
(Tetley Smooth) *

2578: George & Dragon, Whitley, Goole, East Yorkshire (Date Visited: 13/2/07)
Nice pub set back from Doncaster Road, just inside the East Yorkshire boundary. Aiming for the passing food trade, it still caters for the drinker amongst us, with at least two cask ales. The interior is getting tired, but if anything, it adds to the warmth of the welcome.

New Pubs 2574 - 2577

(viewed 1005 times)
2577: Black Swan, Normanton, West Yorkshire (Date Visited: 12/2/07)
Large and attractive pub which has sadly clearly seen better days. Closed the first time I visited, only the tap room was open when I returned. The darts and dominoes team were the only customers there and no cask ale was on offer.
(Tetley Smooth) *

2576: Blands Arms, Micklefield, West Yorkshire (Date Visited: 12/2/07)
Lovely old coaching inn tied to Sam Smiths Brewery. I was greeted with a warm smile the pub has a nice, welcoming feel. There is a plaque on one wall commemorating the Peckfield Mining disaster which killed 65 villagers in 1896.
(Samuel Smith's Old Brewery Bitter) ****

2575: Junction Inn, Normanton, West Yorkshire (Date Visited: 11/2/07)
Reasonable pub in a rapidly dying town centre. Appeared to be two rooms but has obviously been opened up extensively. Serves cheap and very popular meals and a cask ale or two would have added at least another star.
(John Smith's Smooth) ***

2574: Crimea Tavern, Castleford, West Yorkshire (Date Visited: 11/2/07)
Large pub which has regular bands on including local punk and rock outfits. Has a clientele that mirrors the music, but I really liked it. Helped by a reasonable choice of ales. One of the better pubs in Castleford
