Had my first physical therapy appointment yesterday. I'm sick to death
of being in pain from my shoulders/neck/upper back all the time. The
problem is hypermobility - I'm extremely flexible, which if you are in
good shape is a good thing, but if you are severely deconditioned due
to being unable to exercise and breathe at the same time, you're going
to injure the soft tissues around your shoulders/collarbone/shoulder
blades a lot. I regularly pop both shoulders out of joint just
reaching for things, which I'm here to tell you hurts a LOT. Thanks to
new asthma drugs (yay Xolair!) I can now walk out to my car without
feeling like I'm going to drop dead, so time to do something about it.
So, an exercise ball (actually a playground dodge ball - only
non-weighted ball with some give to it I could find), 1 lb weights
which I can also use for leg exercises I was given by the
rheumatologist, a water bottle to bring to therapy, and a new pillow
because sleeping on an old fiberfill one isn't helping the neck any,
according to the PT. Oh, and Mat, the PT hooked me up and we did that
pain gating business only without the cool acupuncture needles, it felt
really strange but it already seems to have helped a bit.

T'other day, Kozika San
wished for my computer to be recovered from it's
problems. Immediately after reading her kind message, I erased the hard
drive and reinstalled the operating system. This seems to have fixed
the problems. Once I had all my settings recovered, the first photo
which popped up was Cherry & Daifuku.
...who has ALL the mad command-line skillz, yo. Yes, he has the iBook
up and running thanks to some command-line magic in BSD that I'm not
even going to try to explain. He managed to get it to talk to an Iomega
external hard drive we had so it is now backed up. Then we did the
archive and restore thing again. Given the age of the Iomega drive we
don't fully trust it, so tomorrow we'll be going shopping for the
external DVD drive I want and I'll back up again, then we'll probably
replace the HD in the iBook ASAP. Notebook hard drives have become way
affordable, thank goodness - I may even come out ahead with a bigger
drive than what I started with. We'll see.
Dear Universe:
What makes you think I have TIME for this shit right now?? A failed hard drive was so very NOT on the schedule. You are fired.
No love whatsoever,

Yeah, so I get to here, get the spinning pinwheel, and then it sits and spins. I'd love to tell it what it could sit and spin ON, right about now. Guess I'd better call the new Best Buy and see if they are Mac savvy - from what I'm reading there are ways to get it backed up, maybe, but I need another Firewire-capable Mac to do it and certain software, neither of which I have. Closest Mac store is a goodly haul - at least an hour.
Did I mention a new Mac of any stripe so not being in the budget right now? And that this one is all of a week past the warranty?
ETA: Yep, screwed - see comments. If anyone needs to get in touch, use silar31 at mac dot com, as I can check that one online. Plan as it stands is to somehow get the data recovered from the drive, and maybe try reformatting. Meanwhile, I'll be off and on using DH's machine and I'm getting the web browser for my DS too, just to see how it works. Did I mention not having time for this right now? Yeah, thought I did. *headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk*
