03-03-2008 - Bonsai Blog Day 4

(viewed 591 times)
I overcame the problem of not having a spraying device today by realising I in fact DID have a spraying device. I pulled my ?5 argos iron from the cupboard, filled it with water and unleashed the ?5 argos spray action! Just have to remember to do that in the morning as well.

Did the every two day watering routine as suggested by the Bonsai care website I found. While I think about it, they suggest leaving a Bonsai outside in the summer months. But how, then, will it manage to avoid the DIRECT SUNLIGHT?! Stupid plant. Can't it photosynthesise properly or something?!

Pshizi Artwork

(viewed 625 times)
Wanted to post a picture of the picture I bought the other day from a street artist who I believe is called Pshizi. He was sat on the floor down Brick Lane in London's East End just drawing these things in marker pen on what appeared to be ripped up shoe boxes. He was wearing a cap, a scarf over his mouth and nose, a typical camping shop black puffer jacket, jeans and hiking style trainers. He had laid 20 or 30 of these things up against the wall in a long line and was charging just ?5 each for them. Bargain, says I. His website is pshizi.com though it's not up just yet (he told me soon). Possibly the most unusual situation in which I've bought art but I'm very pleased with my purchase. Admire.

02-03-2008 - Bonsai Blog Day 3

So, having done some research on the web I have discovered the following:

Water your tree every other day, ensuring that the compost never completely dries out.

Spray the leaves with water twice daily.

Good news. Haven't sprayed him at all for three days and he needs watering today. Seeing as I can't be bothered tonight I'll leave that for tomorrow. I'm willing to take my chances so early into the challenge. I'm such a loose cannon! Though hopefully Robert Dyas will be able to provide me with some sort of spray device. I've heard Karcher make some good ones...!! (Google it people)

01-03-2008 - Bonsai Blog Day 2

Put Jon on the windowsill for a bit today - out of direct sunlight of course!!! I get the feeling from the instructions that I shouldn't really move him around too much but there's not really a good place to put him. The kitchen is the only light place in our house as it has a conservatory style window across the back of it but our kitchen is also the most drafty place on earth. Such conflict! I still need to buy something to mist him with too as I only have empty Mr Muscle bottles and if any of the cleaning product is left behind "he gon' die". He may also die if I don't mist him. Any suggestions for a spray alternative?

29-02-2008 - Bonsai Blog Day 1

(viewed 616 times)
Today I bought a Bonsai tree. For those who do not know what this is, it is esentially a normal kind of plant or bush that is carefully looked after and grown into a tree shape. However, the trees are never more than about 12 inches tall. They're pretty cool but they are INCREDIBLY difficult to look after. Allow me to quote the box:

Place the Bonsai in a light area but not in direct sunlight. Keep at a constant temperature between 20-25c and away from drafts. WATERING IS IMPORTANT: Place in a bowl or sink and ensure soil is completely covered. Leave for 10-15 minutes then remove and allow to drain. Mist the leaves with water regularly. Feed with house plant fertiliser following instructions but at half strength. Do this only during the Spring and Summer growing season. It is not unusual for a Bonsai to drop it's leaves when placed in a new position in the home or during the autumn. These will grow back.

If you ask me, Mr Bonsai tree needs to stop being such a wiener and grow up a bit. Still, given all the care it needs my flatmate gives it 20 days. I am less optimistic. I give it a week or so before it kicks the bucket. Considering it's taken someone 8 years to get it to where it is now, that's pretty damned destructive! I've also named it "Jon" (think about it... and the penny drops!). Now, I actually really rather loathe Bon Jovi so naming it Jon is actually quite likely to encourage my killing it but I'll still try and do my best. Progress as it arrives on an (almost) daily basis.

Oh yeah...

Nearly forget. If you haven't read it in the news yet, everyone who waited at the store that night will be receiving one of these bad boys, a 46 inch Sony Bravia LCD TV. For free. FREE! Everyone went a bit mental about that. Can't really complain, though I think I'm going to have to find a new house to put it in!
I have to admit that Sony had got my goat a little due to how long they've taken to get the console out over here and then how they decided that only certain PS2 games would be compatible with the new machine (hurry up with the Metal Gear Solid 2 patch, boys!). In light of all this, though. I'm quite happy. And there's meant to be a copy of Casino Royale on Blu-Ray on the way too. The arguement between ?300 or ?425 for the PS3 seems to have been won in my opinion!

Realisation Of A Dream

(viewed 662 times)
Sony have realised one of my dreams! There was a light-based graffiti wall. The artists were doing stuff freehand on there, then taking pictures of the crowds, scanning them into the computer, making them monochrome and then sweeping over them with what I guess was supposed to be the electronic equivalent of a paint roller. They rolled my face onto the launch of the PS3! All I need now is to get my music into one of the Grand Theft Auto games and I'll be ready to die!!

Resistance

(viewed 686 times)
Free copy of the shooting game "Resistance: Fall Of Man". It's about a world where WW2 didn't happen. Instead, in 1950, loads of mutated Russian aliens come and invade England and win. Then some wierd crap happens and one guy survives yada yada yada. I've only played it for a few minutes but it actually seems pretty good.
