I am all about plants these days.
Horsetail, equisetum, may survive us.
and you can use them to clean your dishes when you're in the bush. they are like wire because they have so much silicon in them. did you really need to know that?

hawk hill

(viewed 1010 times)
Every fall, all the owls, hawks, eagles--the raptors--fly south and they hit Lake Ontario. They cannot fly across Lake Ontario, so they fly along it until they can go south. Top photo is the hawk counting crew. From September into winter, they sit on Hawk Hill and count the birds. Today was a good one--138 turkey vultures, 4 golden eagles, 5 American eagles, and lots of birds I missed because I was there for plants, not birds. I thought they deserved the sundog rainbow. They will be there tomorrow, and the next day, and the next...until the birds stop coming. And they have eyes as keen as hawks.

are you the theramin?

I cannot show you how much fun this was. Wherever you moved, you made sound. People would say, no, do it this way. Or sorry, I am waving my arms to make the bells ring..highly interactive because you bumped into people or someone had a theory about what they were doing, totally absorbing and a major success.

In Toronto's financial district there were carnival rides. Just like the financial rides. they all end up with you being on the ground.

Nuit blanche Jeff Koons rabbit bunny

this rabbit has no tail but it sure is shiny.

bottom shot is mayor of toronto, David Miller, so much a class act that he's leaving politics forever, and not running for mayor again. and yes, he has an earring.

we call it indigo, but it isn't what colours jeans. why it is called 'australis' is anyone's guess. probably some fair dinkum mate got lost up here.
