Griff marched in the parade today and we went on to church together (now that is a story in itself).

When I first arrived in the UK, I noticed that much of British society was organised around regularly having a nice cup of tea. And here is another example.

Halloween dinner tonight at a friend's house. I'm not sure why Griff keeps suggesting I should go as Frankenstein's monster but I think it's because I sometimes wear a suit to work.

A lovely morning spent clambering around the rocks. Ruth shivered in the beach shelter but our interest wasn't dulled by the cold. Rounded it off with hot chocolate in a waterfront cafe.

We went seal watching. You have to go with the tides and so we were taken out just as the sun was setting. This was an open top boat, the sea quite choppy and waves splashing in on us. Ariana shrinking away from sea spray and trying to find a cuddly human shield. Being cute can get you a long way and she got protected by a kind lady at the centre of the boat.
And then I started to notice that Griff was jiggling his leg and looking quite edgy. He desperately needed the toilet. ‘There isn’t a toilet here’, I said. It got worse. Peed pants immanent. ‘Go down and see the pilot’ I said. Maybe they have a plan for this sort of thing. Pushing through the crowded boat, Griff disappeared and returned a few minutes later with a relaxed smile on his face. He was given a bucket to use. It was the highlight of the trip.
Oh and the seals’ faces made me think of a reincarnated Paul Edgington and Penelope Keith. I think it’s the noses. It's nice to think they will be living the good life even after death.
