Seems to have been a huge amounts of spiders about this year but i've
only seen one or two wasps all year. Is there a connection? Are the
spiders suddenly winning a war between the two species that I've
previously been oblivious to?

And lots of little fruit flies as well, many of which have set up home in my kitchen.

Are you still voicing your vendetta against wasps?

If only somebody (Kris) still had a video of you on the trip to Leeds getting attacked by a wasp...

...Oh yeah he still does.

Nothing to do with my wasp hatred merely an observation. Last year if you tried to eat a meal outside you could be certain that you'd be bothered during the meal by several wasps, this year none of the bastards have been about. Which is nice.

This came up somewhere on moblog before - and yes, the two are connected - because summer took a while to get going, the wasps nested too early and died, meaning spiders had a free run. or something like that.

...so do wasps eat spiders...? Or just evict them or something...

Crickson - have you not seen the spiders in other years roaming around with belongings tied in a cloth to stick slung over one shoulder?

I'd love to think that you're right.... I'd also noticed that there weren't many wasps about (didn't notice a single one this summer until one landed on my head and stung me half heartedly in September).
