17th Nov 2005, 17:59

daz says:

Joe: Does the extension work with the mac version of firefox?

17th Nov 2005, 18:00

Spike says:

pah, why oh why wont the extension install??

17th Nov 2005, 18:00

goode says:

drag and drop the downloaded extension file into your extensions panel (Tools>extensions) that worked for me!

17th Nov 2005, 18:06

alfie says:

JOE YOU RUUUUUUUUUUULE!! Just used the tag function and good god its just so damn awesome mate.

17th Nov 2005, 18:08

Spike says:

JOE, you do in fact rule, ill have to buy you that pint on monday night

17th Nov 2005, 18:10

James says:

Joe rules teh moblog!

You might want to explain on your page that the best way to install the extension is to download it, then drag/drop it into the extensions box under tools>extensions as Goode suggested above.

Like Spike I was confused as it didn't auto-install like extensions from the Mozilla website.

17th Nov 2005, 18:21

mat says:

niiiice. I'm on the case for getting you access to the mbUK web code, btw. :)

17th Nov 2005, 18:47

seaneeboy says:

This is wicked!

17th Nov 2005, 18:53

Joe says:

Daz: Firefox is thankfully platform independant, so yes it will work on the mac version...

James, I'll do that this evening, I'm still trying to work out what the extensions site does that makes it autoinstall, the links appear to be normal links *shrugs*, but yes thanks, I'll put instructions up.

Spike, you FUCKING KNOW I'm gonna hold you to that pint :D

and thanks everyone...mat I await with bated breath :)

17th Nov 2005, 19:24

Spike says:

Joe, I do fucking know it! hahhah wooooo

17th Nov 2005, 19:26

onceupon says:

Joe, that is HAWT. I love Firefox already -- this just cements my love even more.

17th Nov 2005, 19:32

onceupon says:

Waaaaah. I can't do a thing with the xpi file.

17th Nov 2005, 19:35

Joe says:

onceupon, download it to your desktop, then open the extensions window (Tools->extensions) and drag the file to the extensions window, it should install

17th Nov 2005, 19:38

onceupon says:

Huh.... Still doesn't work. I had to upgrade my Firefox and it STILL isn't registering the extension when I drag it to the Extensions window.... It seems to be downloading an empty file for some reason.

17th Nov 2005, 19:47

Joe says:

what version of firefox are you using? the xpi file should be about 5k, you can always try File->Open and browse to the file

If you need me to email you the file, I can do that.

17th Nov 2005, 19:49

Steve says:

I looooove it!

Onceupon,

File
Open file..
Click on the file! it will load in just fine, I had the same problem

17th Nov 2005, 19:49

onceupon says:

Joe, Steve, thank you both -- finally managed to get it working and it is LOVELY. Joe, you're brilliant.

17th Nov 2005, 20:34

Joe says:

you're welcome maam :)

17th Nov 2005, 20:36

Viv says:

18th Nov 2005, 10:25

kostika says:

I've got this installed at home and at work :o)

18th Nov 2005, 10:31

Joe says:

I'm just trying to get my head around the auto update thingy, so when I release a new version it will let you all know, also, if anyone fancies doing a 32x32 pixel icon for it...I'm crap at stuff like that.

18th Nov 2005, 10:39

bronxelf says:

Oh neat. Thanks, Joe. :D

18th Nov 2005, 11:12

Joe, you sir are a genius.

I big hats off to you!

19th Nov 2005, 18:56

Joe says:

Thankyou Sir Findo, glad you like it :)

19th Nov 2005, 19:03

Love the tag thingy.

19th Nov 2005, 19:37

beth says:

i likes.. now i'm gonna have to use firefox :) ... only i'd like it if once you'd done the tags it goes back to my main blog page so i can get on with doing the other million tags i've forgotten to do :)

20th Nov 2005, 00:47

Viv says:

like tags prompt - don't have to do that annoying preview and can see more of previously used tags so don't have to guess which one is right!

Editing note - separate not seperate

20th Nov 2005, 01:32

Shoes says:

Be Jabbers! Looks like about 98% of my moblog needs tagging! Best get cracking...

nice extension you have there Joe ... ahem! :)

20th Nov 2005, 01:33

Joe says:

but beth, if you use the previous/next links, it's even faster....it's ace that you're all using it, I kind of did it for me, and never expected anyone else to use it really....now I just need ideas for more functionality....personally I like Steve's "cat filter" idea

20th Nov 2005, 01:36

beth says:

oooh i'd go for some of that..

20th Nov 2005, 01:38

beth says:

where are the previous/next things of which you talk?

20th Nov 2005, 01:39

beth says:

by golly.. i'd never noticed those.

i really am a dippy bugger

20th Nov 2005, 01:41

alfie says:

an idea might be an imagewall creation based on tag searches....

20th Nov 2005, 01:42

beth says:

or limiting tag searches to friends only for when moblog's full of joes and alfies and beths

20th Nov 2005, 01:45

Joe says:

hmm thats a server side thing, which, when mat gives me access to the code, shouldn't be too difficult, the imagewall is a much underused feature in my opinion

20th Nov 2005, 01:46

alfie says:

pffft. :)

20th Nov 2005, 01:46

Joe says:

the tag search needs refining a bit, it is only in beta though, so thats fair....we need favourite galleries, and highlight galleries, and personalised front pages...and...and...

20th Nov 2005, 01:52

Rich says:

MAKE IT SO, NUMBER ONE.

20th Nov 2005, 01:53

beth says:

i think limitations on who can view comments might be good.

20th Nov 2005, 01:53

alfie says:

yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of what you could do with the search script, so forget tags, even a search field image gallery output would be interesting...

20th Nov 2005, 01:54

Joe says:

explain Alf? not quite sure what you mean....like display all images that match the search criteria as an image wall?

20th Nov 2005, 02:00

alfie says:

yeah - since tags are server side you might want to wait to expend the obvious effort it would take to do, but pashing an imagewall out of search results should be pretty cool too - but then again, actually *doing* a search and checking out the results I see that no, it'd be pretty crap ;)

20th Nov 2005, 02:02

Joe says:

oh I don't know, I think the tag search is actually pretty good, especially when you can do stuff like www.moblog.co.uk/tag/lomo?rss
features like this need documenting and exploiting more
an imagewall from tags would be pretty cool though.

20th Nov 2005, 02:07

beth says:

s'all magick to me

20th Nov 2005, 02:11

Joe says:

beth, limiting who can see comments is potentially very difficult, even if you're going to use exclusion rules rather than inclusion rules, for example, anyone can see my comments, except the public and Joe. The problem with this, is that every time a person loads a page, the system has to check if they have permission to view every comment, if there are 200 comments, thats quite a lot of processing, times that by 5000 users and the poor server starts having fits.....

20th Nov 2005, 02:17

beth says:

-considers a tantrum-

20th Nov 2005, 02:25

alfie says:

joe, sorry I meant normal search not tags, tags on mbuk are pretty great.

20th Nov 2005, 02:38

James says:

Joooooeeeeee! I just installed the new version of Firefox (1.5) released this evening and it would appear it's not friends with you moblog extension and disabled it!

Is there any chance you'll be able to update/fix this at any point....or is all hope lost?

30th Nov 2005, 00:12

Joe says:

James
I've updated the extension, to now work with FF 1.5, you can get version 0.5.1 of the extension from www.thepoweroften.co.uk/greasemonkey

30th Nov 2005, 11:17

alfie says:

awesome - have you given any thought to the mod issue of being able to add tags to anyones post? Or is that after you've looked at code-base etc?

30th Nov 2005, 11:22

Joe says:

I haven't looked at it at all to be honest, it's something I do need to do though...possibly after I go through the wonderous moblog code and see exactly how mat has developed this brilliant place.

30th Nov 2005, 11:36

James says:

Thanks Joe!

30th Nov 2005, 11:44

Euphro says:

Thanks for this Joe, it's a wonderful tool :)

30th Nov 2005, 13:54
