After seeing claims on a lamppost that Leeds is "Knightsbridge of the
North," I thought I'd put the claim to the test. The results, as you can see, are a resounding: "Yes, yes it is!"

John says:

The 'Knightsbridge of the North' was not a title thought up by the council marketing department. It was printed by 'The Times' in 1995, and 'Conde Nast Traveller' ten years later.
It's easy to be flippant on the basis of selective comparisons. With Leeds almost doubling the size of its retail centre within the next five years, thanks to the masterplans of Terry Farrell and Enric Miralles, i would say it leaves the ugly, traffic congested Knightsbridge well in the shade.
