Deadly serious as far as they're concerned Joe ;-)

Does anyone know why pheasants always come in braces (pairs, not trouser holders) by the way?

probably because there is not enough for two to eat off one bird...

Sounds logical melissaamy. Having seen the unplucked version I doubt I'll ever be eating Pheasant. Am rapidly going off dead things (apart from fish, ahem).

On the bright side, it has reminded me of a very good Burns poem/song about shooting

From Now Westlin Winds

"Thus ev'ry kind their pleasure find,
The savage and the tender;
Some social join, and leagues combine;
Some solitary wander:
Avaunt, away! the cruel sway,
Tyrannic man's dominion;
The Sportsman's joy, the murd'ring cry,
The flutt'ring, gory pinion!"

Burns, is he the famous Scot poet?

OJ says:

Yes, that's him.

*Note to self*: stop thinking out loud about poetry....

I just saw a show on PBS here about him, it was Scotland Today or something.
They cooked haggis and visited his home and grave.
That was, sadly, the firstt ime I ever heard of his name, but I have heard his poems in passing!

There is a whole nostalgia/heritage industsry around Burns melissaamy - he's seen as Scotland's national poet.

I'm no expert - this poem (which I know as a song) just sprang to mind because it's about game shooting - and courting in fact.
