goode says:

30th Jan 2006, 18:39

mat says:

I refer you to: this page :)

30th Jan 2006, 18:40

goode says:

hoorah! i love competitions i wish there were loads of them!

30th Jan 2006, 18:44

Helen says:

What's this shit about girls winning a subscription to some stupid magazine? And boys getting beer. That's discrimination. Terrible. Not impressed.

I couldn't even leave that on the work coffee table. It'd disappear into the men's loos.

I should have really expressed this in photo-form.

30th Jan 2006, 20:39

Electric Sheep says:

(meh, wasn't suppose to be a quote, it was suppose to be.. ah nevermind. Silly,)

I want a magazine subscription...

30th Jan 2006, 20:44

Joe says:

blimey...if you don't like the prizes....don't enter!

30th Jan 2006, 20:47

Gael says:

My two penneth, I don't like the new banner at the top of the homepage!

30th Jan 2006, 20:48

Helen says:

That's not what I said.

30th Jan 2006, 20:48

Helen says:

The theme is truly horrible.

30th Jan 2006, 20:49

beth says:

can we have a banner design competition instead (can i just design some anyway?)

30th Jan 2006, 20:49

Helen says:

And I'm in a terrible mood about becoming 26 on the 14th.

30th Jan 2006, 20:49

beth says:

ho hum

30th Jan 2006, 20:51

Twiglet says:

Believe me, there are worse things than being 26 on the 14th. I'd love to be 20 anything or even 30 anything.... *sob*

30th Jan 2006, 20:52

Electric Sheep says:

Oh i dunno, i quite like the theme, reminds me of MySpace... lol.

30th Jan 2006, 20:52

Joe says:

I have to admit the theme came as a bit of a shock to me, but I can deal with it, Helen, I too am in a foul mood, sorry if it sounded like I was snapping.

30th Jan 2006, 20:54

Gael says:

Seriously, if came across moblog now, that would turn me right off

30th Jan 2006, 20:54

Gael says:

Oh God, just read that back, I didn't express myself very well then!

30th Jan 2006, 20:55

Helen says:

And a story...

... once upon a time, a very long time ago (ok, Gael, not all that long ago) when I was a little girl, we used to have a Christmas party in the village hall, every year, for all the little girls and boys in the village. And Father Christmas would visit us with presents. One year he had bought a "Bunty" annual for all the little girls, including me, and a "Dandy" annual for all the little boys. I hated "Bunty", recognising it as trite nonsense at the age of seven, and was most upset and angry. I think I would have appreciated the Dandy a tiny bit more.

What an ungrateful child.

30th Jan 2006, 20:56

Electric Sheep says:

I dunno, i think that's normal. I'm sure you're not the only girl to have been attracted to Desperate Dan...

30th Jan 2006, 20:58

Gael says:

*goes up in loft to find old annuals*

30th Jan 2006, 21:01

Helen says:

The Blue Peter annual would have been good, I never got one of those.

30th Jan 2006, 21:03

Gael says:

oldest I can find are Rupert from 1974 and Abba from 1978 ...

30th Jan 2006, 21:06

Helen says:

That was quick.

30th Jan 2006, 21:10

mat says:

We thought it might be fun to retheme the front page for a while, that's all. I guess the design's not for everyone, but it's nice to have a change for a bit.. It's not going to stay forever, don't worry. :)

Helen: surely if you left the beer on the coffee table at work, that would end up in the loos as well, after a few hours...

30th Jan 2006, 21:12

Helen says:

Yeah, the boys' loos.

30th Jan 2006, 21:15

beth says:

the pink theme's ok. i don't mind that, it's cute.. but i've redesigned the banner for you mat. hang on.. just uploading..

30th Jan 2006, 21:17

beth says:

30th Jan 2006, 21:25

Helen says:

Couldn't you turn all the little bubbles into little hearts?

30th Jan 2006, 21:27

beth says:

no.

30th Jan 2006, 21:29

Helen says:

oh.

30th Jan 2006, 21:29

spinboy says:

But the hearts would be cute.

30th Jan 2006, 21:50

Electric Sheep says:

I dunno, the theme's starting to grow on me. I have a thing against underline links tho.

Underline: none.. please?

30th Jan 2006, 22:18

Joe says:

it's actually very bad practice not to underline your links, in both accessibility and usability terms

30th Jan 2006, 22:32

spinboy says:

I don't think he has had the class on web semantics yet.

www.useit.com

30th Jan 2006, 22:52

mat says:

well, as long as links are clearly recognisable (ie, using colours safe for colourblind users, etc. etc.), text-decoration: none isn't so bad. I prefer no underlines on my links too, but I didn't design this theme (that would be Afternoon)

Jakob Neilson's Dance Party

30th Jan 2006, 23:02

Joe says:

word to your mother

30th Jan 2006, 23:03

mat says:

Jakob has 100% of THE FUNK.

30th Jan 2006, 23:05

Joe says:

one might even go as far as to say he as all teh funk

30th Jan 2006, 23:06

Electric Sheep says:

Mat, i was just about to say the same thing.

So to my dearest brother, Spinboy, a completely random and unrelated quote, "I love scotch. Scotchy, scotch, scotch. Here it goes down, down into my belly..." meh.

30th Jan 2006, 23:11

spinboy says:

Talking about colourblindness, the current eBay UK theme looks exaclty what the old yellow theme looked like to some people with yellow colourblindness. I think, it's been a while since I wrote my use of colour on the web essay. But it defintely ended up blue.

30th Jan 2006, 23:19

Joe says:

mmm scotch....alas I have none, so rum will have to do.

30th Jan 2006, 23:24

goode says:

Scotch = Whisky

pullleeese!?

31st Jan 2006, 01:59

Helen says:

I didn't even notice the underlined links. It's just the pictures I don't like. Bit clip arty. Harsh, rather than Valentiney.

Where are the kittens?
