I have a piece of that pier since 2 years ago. Part of it collapsed just in time for me to arrive to Brighton for new year's eve 2003... All the pieces were scattered on the seashore...

I posted it with you in mind in fact, but you were driving. It's good that you've got a piece then, and its better that they build something new than restore somthing tattered I think.
My sister's friend was working on the restoration of this some years ago. Apparently, it was all taking far too long and getting too expensive. So... guess what, the most recent fire was an insurance ploy... or at least *that's wat my sister's friend told me*
