My Pet Hate: is TUESDAY, everything that has ever gone wrong in my life has happened on a TUESDAY! I hate it, it's now my day off so that i don't have to face the world! Don't make me have to suffer TUESDAY by asking me about it!!! I also dislike girls who drink pints, smoke and generally act like men!!

*whacks goode over head with a copy of the branding guidelines*
the BBC logo is Gill Sans, not Avant Garde. And you should be using an EPS, not making it from scratch.

oh edith is great

2nd Mar 2006, 12:08

goode says:

yeah she is!

edith appears to enjoy colin entering her a great deal.

2nd Mar 2006, 12:11

goode says:

teflon: it's all the same, EPS not available so a DIY job was necessary!

seaneeboy says:

the "BBC" and "Radio" doesn't look quite right either - has that been shrunk or redrawn? it's missing the frequency bit too... I'd also imagine there isn't enough whitespace around the logo in the 2nd one :)

Sorry, I've been doing a lot of branding work recently and am very critical :)

goode says:

the heart verion was just me messing...

everything was redrawn, i was given nothing to work with other than the images of the acts...

Was gutted!

2nd Mar 2006, 13:22

goode says:

i added the original logo at the top for comparison..

2nd Mar 2006, 13:25

seaneeboy says:

Oh aye, don't get be wrong, it's an admirable effort, but brand managers are an incredibly picky lot - I wouldn't let them see these if I were you!

2nd Mar 2006, 13:26

goode says:

it's in house branding of the Radio 1 tour...

the BBC aren;t supplying anything for it! Buggers!

what "frequency" bit are you talking about?!

2nd Mar 2006, 13:29

i think he means the 98 to 99fm thing

2nd Mar 2006, 13:31

seaneeboy says:

The full Radio 1 logo has the 97-99FM bit on the right of it, so the "1" is in the middle.

2nd Mar 2006, 13:34

goode says:

ah yes i see what you mean... it would be inapropriate to advertise the wave length as we won't be live, or on the radio at all!

2nd Mar 2006, 13:36

seaneeboy says:

(I'm being totally devils-advocate-brand-managery here)

The problem is that it's not for you to decide how the brand is used - by creating these images you've actually committed quite a heavy breach of copyright. You're cashing in on Radio 1's name to make sure you get people through the door... but not even doing it properly, by having what could be interpreted as a cheap knock off of the logos and fonts it actually cheapens the event, and by extention of that, Radio 1. How hard did you actually try to get a copy of the branding guidelines? Or was it just easier this way?

2nd Mar 2006, 13:44

goode says:

Was easier just to kock these up... Thr event is actaully a radio1 event they just never supplied the logos or any help when it came to producing anything...

Their fault at the end of the day! However to the untrained eye, you would never notice the difference at all!

2nd Mar 2006, 13:50

seaneeboy says:

*Frowns* - easier perhaps, and however it looks to an "untrained eye", it doesn't stop it being really really bad practice.

2nd Mar 2006, 13:53

goode says:

yeah i guess so, but you can take that up with Luminar Leisure... They requested the logo and materials, they even stressed that if i had to bodge something, i should!

2nd Mar 2006, 13:56

teflon says:

It's not even that hard to find a proper copy of it, by the way (BBC picture publicity are usually quite quick with supplying images), and even if I didn't have the font, I'd probably try to find a Radio 1 logo in a PDF above faking it.

Bodged design jobs really irk me. But then again, if the BBC can't even get it right sometimes...

That Colin and Edith 'up the arse' picture never fails to amuse me, though :)

2nd Mar 2006, 14:27

goode says:

yeah top image! Hey the design works for the Unit concerned, so no complaint from them or me... I mean FREE bar who's going to argue?!
