Always liked the word bothy - my uncle had an abandoned one up one down amongst his farm buildings that was referred to as the bothy - I always thought it was where they put casul labour - like this bit from wikipedia
- Most bothies have a fireplace, and are near a natural source of water. A spade is provided to bury excrement.
also -
The location of bothies is not publicised widely, and the MBA does not maintain a list – prior knowledge and word of mouth are often the only way of finding a bothy.
Yeah, we were pretty lucky with 'Bob Scott's Bothy' where we stayed - newly rebuilt after a fire last year, so very warm, with a lovely stove and seperate toilet.
We didn't come across any other walkers (it's about 4 miles from the nearest road) staying there, but the guest book showed there had been quite a lot of people staying in it over the last few weeks.
There's a pretty good network of them up in Scotland. Unfortunately like lots of things they do tend to get abused somewhat.
i hope u took all yer rubbish home wuth you or burnt it!
look fwd to seeing pic of snowman infront of bothy!
the feshie door saga.
