mat says:

Can you get BBC channels in the US? It'd be a shame to spend months running the model and then not get to see the results...

miss_pretty_pants says:

we get one, BBCAmerica, & 1/2 hour BBC news on public tv stations. i'm sure the results, if dramatic, will make enough of a splash for me to find it.

Somewhat ironically, this software hasn't been approved for installation on BBC staff desktop machines.

Mat
just read the disclaimers. You reckon it's safe? I might run it on the kids PCs rather than mine, just to be on the safe side ...

mat says:

Perfectly safe, the disclaimers are them just covering themselves. I wouldn't be running it myself otherwise. The software that runs the model is a well-tested (I've run other distributed projects in it before this one) application from UC Berkley, who can be trusted to get it Right.

I'm suprised there's a Linux client but no Mac one though.

mat says:

You should have backups of anything really important anyway... :)

afternoon says:

Yes, I too was miffed at lack of Mac version. It's BOINC-based, which has a Mac version, but I believe the model work-units are binary. So unless I get some kind of Mac that actually uses an Intel processor... but that's just crazy talk!
