Did Radiohead bother doing anything good either before or after The Bends and OK Computer?

Could you point me to their best five songs, in your opinion, that don't appear on The Bends or OK Computer? That way I can re-evaluate before making the statement that, apart from The Bends, Radiohead have recorded a load of dross. Ta.

25th Mar 2006, 18:12

A says:

have you actually heard any of the other albums?

not to mention eps, live recordings, b-sides - many of which are amazing...

best 5 songs? - I couldn't even begin to choose, and to be quite honest i wouldn't want to.

shark says:

My CD catalogue software says I have:

Amnesiac
Hail to the Thief
Kid A
OK Computer
Pablo Honey
The Bends

If you could pick a few songs for me to try and "get into", then I'd be most appreciative. They needn't be from The Bends of OK Computer, though -- I do like those albums.

25th Mar 2006, 18:58

A says:

i think the most accessible tracks you'll find are:

from pablo honey

creep
you
anyone can play guitar
thinking about you
i can't

from kid a

everything in it's right place
idioteque
the national anthem

from amnesiac

knives out
pyramid song
you and whose army?

from hail to the thief

2+2=5
there there
wolf at the door
go to sleep

if you still think they are 'dross' you are foolish

25th Mar 2006, 19:15

shark says:

You say foolish? I say "not got my head up my arse so far that I can't understand that people have tastes in music that are different to mine and will steadfastly defend the musical and lyrical superiority of what I like because it is so clearly so and if you don't get it you are just thick so nerr".

25th Mar 2006, 20:20

g says:

i salute your choices A.

dude, why? she didn't say anything apart from going to amsterdam. then you came in with the dross nerr yourself. then she obviously went to the bother of helping you out. what music do you like. i like shit music.

shark says:

G man. I expressed an opinion on Radiohead which, as I professed, might have been made in haste -- so asked for a bit of advice on what songs I should take another listen to.

I'm glad you agree with A's choices, though. If two Radiohead fans think they're a good selection by Radiohead's standards, then that will allow my final opinon to carry more weight! :-p

26th Mar 2006, 06:48

A says:

what? you asked for a selection of songs, i gave you a selection of songs.

how does that mean that i have "got my head up my arse so far that I can't understand that people have tastes in music that are different to mine"

you seemed to have shown an interest in two of their albums, so i was giving you a taste of some of their more accessible songs - you seemed to like their two most commercial albums after all.

i completely understand that people have different tastes in music, and all aspects of life, i think that's what keeps it interesting. i would never attack someone for their taste in music, or say that mine is superior, maybe that's just me.

you say that i think that my taste is superior? i say that you are the one who has come on this page and mocked my musical taste, all i did was to stand up for what i believe to be true.

we clearly have contrasting opinions on more than one subject - this is just a bit of fun for me and i don't appreciate having my tastes and opinions ridiculed.

26th Mar 2006, 12:21

Wolverhampton. And V. It's *two* Radiohead gigs for me this year ...

I almost don't want to get involved in this, but I have a few more "accessible" tracks I'd like to add ...

Polyethelene (Airbag EP)
Optimistic (Kid A)
Life in a Glass House (Amnesiac)
I Will (Hail to the Thief)

26th Mar 2006, 12:51

A says:

yes! polyethelene is a great track! woo for you - 2 gigs!!

26th Mar 2006, 13:02

shark says:

I'm sorry if I gave you the impression that I was ridiculing your tastes; that wasn't the intention.
