Twiglet says:

My last cat was insured and his last illness came to over 2 thousand pounds in 1998, of which, because of the insurance I paid about £200. IMO, I kept going much longer than I should have and so did the vet BECAUSE of the insurance. The cat was young and the illness traumatic and I have never since felt able to get another cat. But if I ever did, I wouldn't get insurance again, I would rather have a set financial shut off point. If this sounds harsh, I'm sorry, but it's not as harsh as going on and on with expensive medical treatments only to lose a dear friend at the end of it. Personally I blame the vet, he could've given me a realistic projected outcome in order for me to make a decision with my head rather than with my heart.

Sorry to go on but even 8 years on I believe I prolonged his suffering because of the insurance.
